When every other source of power has gone out in the universe, when the neutron stars go dark and the black holes have evaporated into memories, the Nomad battery pack mod will still provide enough juice for a final game of Sonic 2....

Was the first time I'd powered it on in about a year, battery remained fine for the hour or so that it was on. I'm sure I'll turn it on again next year and it'll still be going.

Fairly convinced you put some kind of perpetual energy machine in those little battery compartments :pac:

Finally got around to giving Blazing Chrome a go this afternoon - really really enjoying it.

Could easily have been called 'Contra Hard Corps - The Lost Levels', it's 99% the same. Even the digitised 'Locked and Loaded!' voice over.

Dead Rising 1 - Was the game I purchased with my Xbox 360
It's still a fantastic game (With some frustrations)

But still holds up so well. I haven't played it since 2006.

Bought it on PS4 towards the end of last year to play again. Got in on 360 not long after it came out and never liked it, then picked it up a year later to finish it and pick up some achievements and more bosses. Gameplay is a bit crap and you have to learn all the tricks to escort the awful survivors but apart from that it's pretty good. Decent looking game at the time with the huge amount of zombies. Still a cool game.

Dead Rising I think really needed to explain to the player that it should be played more like a rogue like. You should play a game, die then start again with updated stats. It's a lot more enjoyable that way.... except the survivor AI.

Dead Rising was a lovely game, and it was the one that forced me to buy a HD television!
The script was almost unreadable on my 29" Trini, the 360 was widely still being used with traditional displays and was fine, but the text on-screen wasn't scaled to reflect that and so was waaay too small!
Also, that bloody clown broke my heart!

Dead Rising 1 is such a classic game.
First game to truly show off what the XBOX 360/Newer consoles could do in my opinion. Great graphics, having 100s of zombies on screen, tons and tons of weapons, big open areas.

One of the few games that did achievements well.

They were all fun and built upon the foundations of the gameplay rather than the collectathon grindy rubbish they have become. It was fun for discovering some of the crazy stuff you could do in the game. I wish more games had a big a sandbox of crazy toys to play with rather than being prettier versions of games from the PS2 era.

They're not officially Retro although very much homages to the era -

The Messenger, and Horace.

Both platformers / metroidvanias in an 8/16 bit style and they're both excellent, highly recommended.

Dead Rising 4 pretty much destroyed the series.
Removed any of the fundamental game mechanics about the series that actually made it unique and ended up turning it into something generic.

There's still a genuine tension when running against the clock through hordes of zombies ala Dead Rising 1 and trying to unveil the complete story / facts.

Gameboy: Mario's Picross, Mole Mania, Solar Striker, Wario Land 2 & Monster Max.

Monster Max is very unusual for a Gameboy game in that it is an isometric action-puzzle-platformer, and I don't think many games of that type exist for the original system, if any, apart from this one. The marketing for the game was badly handled, hence it's largely forgotten.

Mole Mania is an absolutely brilliant game and should be counted among the best the system has to offer.

Mario's Picross is a great pick-up-and-play puzzler that's good for 15 minute bursts.

The Wario Land series is a breath of fresh air if all you've played is the Mario stuff.

Solar Striker - great classic top-down shooter. Again, one for short bursts. Mainly 'cause that bloody level 4 boss is so hard.

Well worth tracking down although I think it's Japanese only.

A great value game. Hours and hours of playtime just trying to finish each puzzle once, never mind going back and trying to beat your times.

A sequel exists on the GB which, like the SNES picross, was only released in Japan. English translated repros do exist, though.

I stuck them on a flash cart for my GBMicro, so I could run them via a suitable emulator (the GBMicro doesn't natively play GB games) and they were great, I also played the Snes one as well, just fantastic

I'm hear to say that Picross is an absolutely disgusting series of games and should be wiped from the face of the earth.

I have Picross games on the DS, 3DS and Switch. Everytime I turn on one of those systems trying to decide what to play I decide on 5 minutes of Picross. 3 hours later I still have made no dent in each systems library.

Thought I'd be playing resident evil 3 remake by now (that's some ad campaign capcom are running with the pandemic! ), but it's not happening until the courier/post gets it sorted.

So, after packing away most arcade stuff for a big move (which won't happen now, thanks capcpom), I dug Aliens out for a blast. Still trying to 1cc it, got as far as the second apc level.

If you're any fan of the Cameron film, you've just got to check it out, easily top 5 games for me and THE Aliens game. Great two player, varied levels (descending into the reactor while protecting the elevator cables is cool), great music, great graphics for the time, just great. Play it on mame, get the board, put it on hardest difficulty and grab that flamethrower

It's a contra game dressed up as a Aliens game.

I really like it but find the level variety lessens as you get further in the game and it ends up a little bit of a slog.

In terms of Aliens based arcade games, my heart still belongs to Capcoms AvP.

Finished Resident Evil 3 remake the other day, not as good as 2 but still enjoyable. I'll probably start an S Rank run next.

Haven't touched anything retro in ages, must dust off something.

Just playing a spot of Salamander and Parodius Da! on the TG-16 via the new AV adapter and it all looks very nice on the 29" Trini.
The XE-1pc stick really hits the spot as well, as a controller.
I don't actually have a traditional control pad for my TG-16, only a nasty little stick that came with it, aside from the excellent Micomsoft arcade stick, but I must pick one up.
Certainly, it wets the appetite for the PC-Engine Mini due, from my new besties in Amazon.jp, by the end of next week.

Been playing Flintstones surprise at dinosaur peak. Using a ROM, doubt I'll ever own a cart, very expensive. Finished it there.
Fun game, gets better throughout as well.

My favourite arcade game of them all. The only one I could 1cc every go and yep flame thrower is by far the best weapon. Iirc on that second apc level when there are too many to shoot with normal gun, use the bombs and also stay left. There are also two ways to kill the final boss.

That Flintstones game as a retro collectible has a weird history.

Apparently it isn't rare at all.

However a 'collector' (I think c*nt is more accurate) decided to buy up every copy that was on ebay and artificially raised the price of it. Has happened with other games since.

Anyway I finished Donkey Kong Country 2 102%. Decent game and way better than the mediocre original but lacking the inventiveness of a Nintendo classic.

Moving on to Yoshi's Island and going for 100%. Might not get it finished depending on when I'm needed back in work so hopefully won't be too long before this blows over...

From what I know about disease control it won't be.
