I Can't Believe This Is Still Going Ahead

In 2012 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of it's sinking this Australian billionaire announced that he was going to get The Titanic rebuilt and call the new ship Titanic II. Due to lots of controversy the last I heard was that it had been abandoned in 2016 and a second Titanic wasn't ever happening. I stopped following their latest news after then. Now I have found out they are still going ahead with the plan in 2022. Just like in 1912 it will do Britain to America calling at France and Ireland in-between.

In 1912 it started at Southampton in Britain for New York. In France it called at Cherbourg but I can't remember where it picked people up at in Ireland and my Dad was there at the museum a few years ago. There's artifacts too which they brought from the shipwreck. Wonder if the harbour would fit The Titanic now.

Cobh in Cork was the Irish stop.

As far as I know, the ship didn't dock at the quay in Cobh. It dropped anchor offshore in deep water and ferries brought the passengers out to it.

I remember when the movie came out I was down visiting family in the area and everyone in the pubs in cobh was whining about the lack of focus on cobh, like that was something that really should have been the big Central point of a movie about the Titanic. Pointing out it was never technically in cobh wasn't something they wanted to hear funnily enough.

Really? Does the hull go much deeper than modern cruse ships. Modsern cruise ships are larger than the Titanic and frequently dock at Cobh.

Edit: did some quick research.
I believe it could dock in Cobh if they wanted to but because of the relatively small number of people boarding in Cobh it was faster to stop further out in the harbour and use two boats to get people on board.
