Are the majority of Irish stupid and greedy?

Genuine question
I notice through my trawling of news sites and their respective pages on the social media etc.. That there doesn't seem to be too many braincells in comments

Read an article about the Luas the other day and someone was legitimately moaning there wasn't one in their area even though it was a rural area with cheap rent and not much facility wise.

Read an article about the Garda and someone mentioned the Garda were scum because they arrested said poster in public before and embarrassed them.

Another person stating that the 2 new 24 hr bus routes is an attack on the Taxi drivers of Ireland by the people of Ireland and the routes should be scrapped cause now taxis might have to work harder.

And of course politics. Anything... literally anything gets announced and instantly barrages of what about the homeless and FF FG LABOUR (people don't seem to be aware Labour aint in gov anymore) not fit for purpose.

So really what I am saying is there seems to be a few pre meditated responses to the big.issues in Ireland and I notice that's all people can ever say.
Why do they not have constructive criticism and why is everything me me me?

Housing- the Governemnt should build social houses. Gov builds the houses . The houses aren't free enough or i don't like the noise of construction so don't build here. It's too high. Yada yada

I'm legit wondering do people see the same online or am I alone ? And yes I believe the comments made by some people to be stupid hence the title.
Also are we stagnating progress by always listening to and sometimes acquiescing to their demands?

No not really. People are the same, but comments sections attract a certain type of comment. Likewise, academic journals attract another type of comment.

Re greedy, I think we have always had "parish pump politics" which is a byword for selfish politics. Whether it's wealthy people looking to lower taxes on wealth, or a rural community trying to get more investment in the area.

There is something which I always find uncomfortable in the way irish people talk about money. They say things like "I threw 20 euro at the charity" or "I fired x euro at him". I think it shows a complete lack of respect for money

I've wondered this too, because of online commentary. Like I dont meet many obviously stupid people in my daily life, but when I look at any article or public fabeook post that Irish people are commenting on, just hundreds of comments that make you face palm, makes me think the average person in Ireland is not smart at all, not only that but very vocally ignorant as well

It's usually the non FF FG voter that seems to be prevalent in those comments though so I'm afraid that comment doesn't hold water.

The taxi drivers remark is not unexpected, there has always been a hardcore of individuals within that industry that don’t believe that they are a public service to enable the public get from A to B but more the public are there to provide them and enable them and their families to make a good living..

A service is proposed where the hundreds of people who work in the airport at night and throughout the night now have an opportunity to get to work and home using affordable public transport.... certain taxi drivers visualize this as an ‘attack’ on them ! Right... using a bus either the company or the individual will be paying about 40% of what a taxi fare might be depending on destination... so roughly 60% of a saving... their hard earned cash in their pocket to spend on themselves and their families...also people who need to get out there for early flights benefit the same, saving more with not paying luggage charges etc...

Taxi industry must realize that they are there to serve the public, not the other way around..when other aspects of public transport become increasingly flexible to offer people more affordable and efficient options to reach their destination its a good thing... ‘public’ transport is to serve the ‘public’...

I work with the public every day and I genuinely have to ask myself how the **** some people manage to dress themselves in the morning. The dumbest questions you’re asked.
Don’t know how some people manage to do tasks like booking flights and having the wherewithall to get to an airport and through security. Things that require a bit of organisation and thought. In general a lot of people want others to do everything for them and don’t want to think for themselves. No plan B whatsoever.

Haven't read the op but I totally agree. When i was five or six, I was in the shop with my bestest friend and our mams. We ran over to the book/magazine section. I picked up a Kylie and Jason book. My friend looked around but there were no other Kylie and Jason books left. All that was left were loads of these Jason books.

My friend got upset because she wanted the Kylie and Jason book. So as noble, kind-hearted six year olds do and in the name of friendship, I said, 'ok, neither of us will take this Kylie and Jason book. Let's both get a (crappy) Jason book' and she agreed.

Maybe it's enhanced via social media for sure but I just feel like the "what about the" and the "me me me" mantra is so much more prevalent these days. Defintiely agree with you on the personal responsibility too. Everything is blamed on someone/something else.

Maybe someone just pissed in my corn flakes this morning but I really feel this mindset to be way more prevalent in Ireland these days.

Yeah, yet people do those things even if they ask stupid questions along the way. Around half of people are below average. It's not that surprising when you think about it.
