Fantastic win for Mourneabbey in the semi final of the All Ireland at home today.

A tough, bruising game saw them 4 points up early on but the Monaghan side are a class act and were winning by 3 at ht.

With about 15 to go, they were still a point up, but aided by the wind, the home side rattled off 7 unanswered second half points.

Doireann O'Sullivan was just outstanding as always scoring 8 points in total.

They looked confident, fit and will be very hard to beat in the final.

They won a s scoreline of 2-12 v 1-10

Win for Nemo in Munster football, Glen Rovers beaten in the hurling. Big win for Fr O'Neills in the intermediate hurling

Donoughmore into the Junior final while Inch Rovers have gone to extra time

Edit: Inch well beaten in extra time

That was a fine Kilshannig team that lost by nearly double scores. Odds on a Kerry team winning the All Ireland again ???

The standard of football in kerry is always a step up above Cork. Only 3 Cork clubs have beaten Kerry clubs in Junior grade since 2003. In fairness Dromtarriffe should have beaten Beaufort last year, they were unlucky but had chances and Beaufort were red-hot favourites before they played the game. Na Gaeil should win it easy now unless they become complacent.

I bet their junior is akin to our intermediate grade

Their junior champs are essentially the 17th best team in Kerry

I’d guess kilshannig would be around 40th in Cork ??

I wonder how many of they Blackrock team that played yesterday have played senior championship already but unfair given how a few years ago the board parachuted in Blackrock Barr’s glen sars etc all into this intermediate championship without having won the junior title do Blackrock now play premier intermediate in 2020

I was at the game (Na Gaeil are my own club). Kilshannig seemed a little unprepared for Na Gaeil. They were quite one dimensional and ultra defensive. They put loads of bodies behind the ball expecting Na Gaeil to turn the ball over in the tackle, but Na Gaeil worked it side to side patiently then but the full forward line with footpasses and took good scores.

Kilshannig dug a grave for themselves by trying to play everything through Killian O'Hanlon who was well marked out of the game by Eoin Doody. They missed a lot of shots under pressure and a few easy enough frees.

Na Gaeil's first goal was a bit lucky and looped over the goalkeeper somehow. Kilshannig tried a few times to get back in the game but Na Gaeil had a better structure to their game and kicked some nice scores under pressure.

8 club teams in senior county championship.
16 club teams in intermediate county championship.
Junior champs would be the 25th best team in the county (based on county championship)

I really don't understand why Cork enter the winner of their third tier championship into the intermediate championship and their 5th tier championship into the junior championship. Crazy stuff. The only reason I can see is so that the 2nd tier clubs can call themselves senior and the 3rd and 4th tier call themselves intermediate. I doubt there would be any objections from outside of the county if they renamed the 2nd tier to intermediate and 3rd tier to junior and entered the winner of those competitions into the 2nd and 3rd provincial tiers.

It's the sheer number of clubs in Cork that causes so many tiers. Next year there will be 4 tiers above Junior; Premier Senior, Senior A, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate.
Premier Senior will be 12 teams + Divisions
Senior A will be 12 teams, Premier Intermediate 12 teams and Intermediate will be 16 teams.

To the best of my knowledge - none. If you play senior you're unavailable for any lower grade. they may have played previous years but not 2019. To be fair this Blackrock team also lost last years final to Ballincollig so they've been fairly consistent in the Intermediate grade.

Also I think with the restructure of the grades both Blackrock & Cloghduv will be Premier Intermediate next year???

No i think only blackrock move to premier next year

Thanks - haven't been able to find the up/down for grades below Senior online other than the total numbers in the original document.

there's very comprehensive info just added to Cork GAA website today. Shows all the gradings, formats etc. Points clubs gained in the grading table etc. Very interesting
