I recently purchased a 924 and am starting to do a few bits to get it ready for the season Anyone got or know where I could buy a driver seat with the black & white pascha finish

It depends what you are looking for.

The engine is more powerful and a bit smoother, but a lot more expensive to maintain (timing belt, water pump, etc.).

The rear suspension may have aluminium arms rather than steel, the power steering is usually there as well.

Drivers side door handle giving me grief again.

It seems there's a couple of flimsy aluminium bits in the handle that if broken, render the whole handle useless.

This was a second hand handle that got fitted not long ago, and now a small bit holding the pin mechanism has broken. Because it's aluminium it can't be welded or repaired.

I need to find ANOTHER handle. Porscheshop.uo.uk are looking for €387.58. Eh, no thanks.

Anyone got a spare right side handle?

Probably a bit too much of a spin for you, but I would talk to this fella. I met him last weekend and got a rear seat + 944 power steering rack from him. He is sound as can be, and very knowledgable.

I got my last door handle from him :P
To be fair, it wasn't broken at the time, just that's the problem with second hand parts.

Have been to his house a couple of times to get bits. Good fella alright. Might see if if he has another.

Though part of me says to just get the newest one I can afford.

Funnily enough there are two guys in Drogheda, both with the same name, who deal in these. The guy my father bought his 924 from (I presume you met the other R) also had a heap of parts, so he too might be worth a shout if you don't want to spend too much on one from eBay or the likes.

I see there's loads of bargain aftermarket options for Mk2 Golfs and Audis that look really like the 924 handle, but you can see there's some subtle differences in the mechanism. All there is for the 924 are ratty second hand ones for small fortune.

This is a royal PITA!

There's a few bits that form part of the mechanism that you can pick up on eBay (not from me!) Parts like this.

But the handle itself has metal parts built in that if broken mean the handle has to be replaced - at a cost.

I feel me and my 924 are coming to the end of our 10 year journey together.

My motoring needs are not compatible with a 36 yr old car. I've been doing about 200km a week for the last two years in it, never anticipating being in the same job for so long. Now I see my job as something more long-term I have to face a bit of reality.

My NCT is just up and if I want a cert I know I'm going to have to deal with rust issues around the front sills. It's all doable, but frankly I'd only be fixing it for someone else as I need a more grown-up car. And doing 10k a year is just going to send what should be a lovely weekend-driver to the grave.

Not sure what the point of this post is - I think i just need comforting before I take out the wash bucket and camera. :pac:

Thats a real shame, especially after so long.

If you can hold out, I'd advise getting the test and advertising it around May next year when the good weather and show season pick up again.

I've actually been thinking about this for 12 months.... so I think the denial has gone on long enough. I really spend a lot of time on the road.

Yeah, of course getting a fresh NCT on it and waiting might be prudent, but time is not my friend here. My rear view mirror got "removed' by my 9 year old 6 months ago and I only got around to reinstalling it last weekend.

Mechanically, she's great. Head gasket done last year along with belts etc. Bloody NCT and their penchant for torches and screwdrivers.

Yeah, you'd wanna see them stabbing at the underside of my dad's 924 a few weeks ago. It was genuinely difficult to watch.

But I think now may be the time to indulge my Alfa 159 love. I'm giving serious thought to bringing this one home.

After a bunch of research last year, the 2.0 Ti seems the best mix of practicality, looks and running costs.
And the gearbox isn't made of cheese like the 1.9s.

Jaysus, you won't know yourself in something like that after 10 years daily driving a 924.

Octavia VRS 2.0 TDI are lovely too, and a nice change - like the 159 - from from the ubiquitous A4/320d.

Sorry to hear about your 924, but considering your needs I can well understand. A friend of mine had one of those Alfas and it was to me anyway a very nice car, "modern" but not if you know what I mean. It gave him no trouble either. I know he regretted selling it. Lovely looking car too.

Impending Brexit has also got my skates on to bring something in. To listen in the motors forum people seem to think the import situation post-Brexit will be so compromised that'll we'll be stuck buying from cars already in Ireland.

Funny enough D I was talking with my friend earlier today about his two Alfa Breras(drives one, is restoring the other) and I thought of you considering the 159. TBH if for some reason I ended up on Shank's pony in the morning I would be seriously tempted to get a Brera as my daily.

Totally forgot about Brexit D and how it might affect yet another aspect of life here. I have a couple of relatives and friends into their classics to one degree or other and they have gotten cars and especially spares from similar enthusiasts in the UK. I suppose it won't hit the classic folks too much, or at least the over 30 years old car folks. I can see it hitting the more "modern classic" scene. Granted I ended up in a modern classic completely by mistake, but down the years I've gotten a few bits and bobs from the UK, though to be fair they were mostly small items, or "just in case" stuff for the future.

Well, if VAT and customs come into play, everything coming in from the UK could be significantly pricier. Nobody knows!

I did look at Breras. Another Alfa that's beautiful, rare and interesting. Just that bit pricer to buy and run. Also, a 159 would allow me to fit three younglings in the back and not have to drive the Grand Picasso at weekends. :P

The longest of my kids (and his mates) are starting to outgrow the space in the back of the 924. It's all gone a bit budget airline with knees banging on the back of the front seats.

Though they are all displeased that I'm thinking of selling.

Unfortunately, so.

I don't have anywhere to keep it, and laying it up outside would do it no good. She's a great driver, and once sorted, needs to be driven.

Will be putting an ad together in the next week or so.

I saw your ad and wondered if it was in fact your car. If you don't mind me asking how did you get on selling it, much interest? I don't know what the market is like for these cars, but I'd like to know it better.

As an aside, did anyone see the red 77 924 that was on Donedeal a few weeks ago? It looked spotless, interior was in excellent nick, apparently it had been in dry storage for the last few years and just needed the starter unstuck...didn't last much longer than an hour on the net, at €1250! Was a total bargain by the looks of it

Yeah I saw that red one. It was only over the road from me. Seemed decent value if indeed that was all that was wrong with it.
