True but a big ask IMO.

Didn't think so with EI? It was cityjet and was ridiculously expensive on a small aircraft.

They served a 3 weekly service after AF pulled out for a short while.

How? Itll be operated by the freed up A320 or either one of the LRs which would make it over and back in plenty of time. Im hearing the BOS flight will be moved to a 13:00 dep to facilitate this.

I'm not sure it will be a profitable service long term. Route support works well but time and time again once it stops carriers drop.

Id imagine the vienna route announced and the 2 possible Aer Lingus routes were in planning anyway prior to the budget.

Hopefully that is the case and the budget funding delivers further routes.

Your probably right, was always probably going to be another service or increased frequency with the freed up A320 in the mornings. Unfortunately some people cant stand to see positive news in Shannon which is nothing new.

Any new route announcements at this time of the year will be for the summer season starting around March.

That article seems to suggest that the AL flight to Paris will be codesharing, with I assume AF?

Not a hope of an AF link. The connections will be a marketing line for the airport to use but in reality meaningless.

Then why would anyone use similar flights through global hubs when direct options exist as is the case all over the world?

In general, price, price, price!!

In the case of Shannon, pre-clearance will be a big selling point.

Oddly enough when I use skyscanner to search flights, the direct flights are often cheaper than the ones that require connections.

I'd say unless the savings are €100 or more, it wouldn't be worth the hassle of adding the extra time to your journey.

Great news for SNN though to have our flag carrier link up to these 2 alpha cities, particularly CDG for the hub connections!

This is great news and will improve connectivity from Shannon as it will reduce the price of some onward destinations , while also giving Shannon a suitable level of European coverage. I really hope these routes are successful.

Don't really buy the Paris to New York argument to be honest , but lets see how it goes. The only way to possibly take advantage of this is a route from much further east where a change of flight is required anyway.

Well then why are people using Dublin as a hub in reasonable numbers from continental airports that already have direct connections?

I think you’re underplaying the possibilities.

Less congestion at pre-clearance in Shannon should be be a plus.
