Oh for Jaysus sake. If there was a title for the stupidest thread ever on boards.ie for 2019. This would be it.

No. People who are long-term unemployed shouldn't deserve the humiliation of going to the Guards to simply sign on for the dole. There are people out there who are literally crying trying to get a job out there in various workforces in this country. Putting them through more stress while being with the Guards is untenable IMO.

Dealing with the civil servants in the welfare office are enough at this time. If you were putting yourself in this position; you wouldn't like it either OP.

Would the child be euthanised too or would they be rehomed? There's going to be a lot of them, I reckon it needs to be done in batches at some sort of specialised facility. so they're concentrated rather than spread out.

That's just nonsense, I would make it that they do something productive with their time, particularly when the child starts school whether it be cutting grass in their local town or village, full pressure 100% to acutally get a job.

In my opinion anyone on welfare should have receipts on everything that there spending their money on, clothes, fuel, shopping and be assessed constantly.

Welfare in Ireland is far to generous. I would go as saying it should be illegal for people to have children unless they can acutally pay for them.

The few I know and one in particular are chronic alcoholics,.not saying it's right or wrong but they need their welfare and have nothing else whatsoever to look forward to,.I don't even care if they drink every penny,. they are capable of nothing else,.and I feel a daily trip to the Garda station would only increase their depression which I know they live with every day.

Falling on hard times is one thing, but long term unemployment in what is effectively a full employment economy as we have now tends to indicate these are the small percentage who have no interest in working for a living and every intention of living off the rest of us.

Im specifically speaking of perpetual long term unemployment benefit claimants, not those on disability income who really should be looked after by the state, whether for permanent disability or other medical grounds, physical or mental health wise.

I think the Gardai should be made to sign on everyday, to some government agency, that does full checks, to make sure they are not moonlighting or receiving other state benefits .

Let's keep 'em honest! I would hate if your honest Guard was too tired to protect the public because of his farming commitments/reps schemes. Or,too greedy.

Back in the 80's when I was unfortunately unemployed for a while we had to sign on every week at the Garda Station. And it was pretty humiliating, that's for sure.
Nowadays you'd hardly find a station open anymore anyway, you'd be a long time waiting to sign on.

There are some who have no interest in working, have never tried to work and signed on the day they turned 18. People who milk the system and it's generational, their parents did the same.

There are some who are too ill to work for physical or mental health reasons - they should be left alone and it's not that easy to get on the long term disability, they do make sure that the person is actually ill enough to be incapable of working.

There are some who are incapable of getting or holding down a job just because...someone I 'know' (I've met her a couple of times and she added me as a Facebook friend so I see all her rubbish) she is from a Dublin council estate and has a real sense of entitlement about what she 'deserves' - now in fairness she did her leaving, went to college and has worked but she seems to be incapable of holding down a job. While working she constantly complains or gets upset on Facebook about her day in work and things she did wrong etc... she definitely has some minor mental health issues and difficulties in social situations. She bounces from simple job to simple job and goes on the dole in between. Complains about how she gets the most menial tasks wrong in jobs. Plenty like her too I assume who just end up staying on the dole because working and struggling to hold down jobs is so upsetting and stressful for them.
