It puzzles me that folk seem to be able to throw serious shade at people like Ryan Tubridy, Ray D’Arcy, Pat Kenny etc and there is little defense, yet, throw a bit of criticism onto Brian Kerr and there is a pushback straight away. Interesting to analyse that response, especially when the criticism is well founded, for a lot of people. Strange...
Arghus wrote: » You get pushback because your reasons for disliking Kerr are silly - his accent, pronunciation and sometimes eccentric turn of phrase - and consistently ignore his football knowledge, perceptive analysis and genuine love for the game - he doesn't have that same level of low level bitterness about the modern game that afflicts other pundits - that make Kerr the absolute best at what he does.
Brendan Bendar wrote: » I’ll have to be honest with you, I have never heard any “perceptive analysis” from Mr Kerr. If comments about players hair and stuff is perceived as perceptive analysis, then fair enough, that’s your bag, fine. It’s not mine, my friend.
Arghus wrote: » Those little comments that he's fond of when co commentating are just a tiny part of Kerr's many charms. He tends not to indulge in those as much, if at all, when working as an analyst in studio.
Brendan Bendar wrote: » I’m afraid I’ll have to take your word for that, lost on this poster, I’m sorry to say. It’s a sudden switch off, if I hear the whine, sorry ‘bout that, sahib.
Arghus wrote: » Maybe that's the problem right there. That sudden switch off. You should try listening, just once anyway, you might be surprised that if you listen to the content - rather than the accent - that he is good. You've said it yourself that there's always pushback about what you say about Kerr whenever you resurrect the thread about him. Think about that: this is Boards, absolutely full of haters and yet anything Kerr related always has the vast majority of posters coming to his defence.
Arghus wrote: » Pro Kerr I would say. You're just in the wrong about Kerr, someday you'll see the light. I think you should listen to him on co-commentary duties just once and if you still absolutely can not stand him afterwards, then fire ahead and get the next iteration of this thread running. At least then we can say your hatred is coming from experience and has been hard earned - as opposed to now where it just comes across as kneejerk and lame.
