Mod edit: Given how the last thread descended into chaos, we are going to leave that closed and start afresh

Welcome to the Waterford GAA discussion thread.

This is consistently the most active thread don the GAA forum. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Personal abuse of anyone be they other posters, players, managers, referees, pundits etc. Any personal abuse will result in an infraction or a ban.

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives. This should be self explanatory. Apart from being a dickish thing to do, it can lead to legal trouble for Boards.

- Trolling. Again, self explanatory. Trolls will be banned for a long time.

- Accusations of trolling. Report a post if you suspect it to be trolling. Do not call a troll out on thread as this will be considered back seat modding.

- Speculation into the identity of another poster. This is a site-bannable offence.

This list is not exhaustive. Either myself or another mod may add to this as we see fit. Just because a certain behaviour isn't listed, doesn't mean you can't be banned for it. The general Boards.ie rule of Don't be a Dick always applies.

If you feel a post breaks the rules, simply click this underneath the post in question to report the post and a mod will deal with it as they see fit.

So be civil to each other and happy posting.

Given that the thread regularly descending into tit for tat insults between posters, From now on, it won't be a card but a ban straight away for anything like this. The mod warning is clear in the first post but yet people still ignore it.
Also, I'd like to remind people of the ban on discussing players'/managers'/officials' private lives without any substance. You can be getting into libelous territory there. So a zero tolerance policy will be enforced as well.

Amazing achievement by the club 3 finals and 2 big wins and a narrow loss in the 3rd

Congrats to Ballysaggart and hope they go far in Munster. They got to a junior AI final before so who knows. The Bennetts are the backbone of the team

Congrats to St Mary's who won the West junior hurling title. They will face Ballydurn in the county final for promotion and a Munster Championship place

To be fair, Ballygunner and MT Sion have won 21 between them in that time out of 26. Lack of depth in general

Amazing for a club like Ballysaggart to play senior. They are one of the smallest clubs in the county, a parish of less than 300 people. Wheras Ballygunner have access to something like 10 thousand. Good luck to them(both) in the Munster club

Great win for Rathgormack. They have had some lean years but it’s great to see their perseverance paying off today.
Congrats to Ballysaggart aswell, for a small population what they have achieved over the past few years has been phenomenal. Get ready to see Ballysaggart v Lismore and also Cappoquin v Ballyduff ( the return of the Murrays) in next year’s championships.

Was talking to a few Bg supporters and in fairness, eventhough disappointed to lose, they acknowledged the best team won and the best result in the long run for Waterford hurling

Tipp representatives will be Sean Tracey's as the other Intermediate finalists also have a senior team.

Tipp intermediate standard is weak owing to having 32 Senior Teams, reality is that our Intermediate championship is in affect Junior A.

I'm not from Waterford but did any of you see an article on Brick Walsh in yesterday's Indo. It was generally fine and a good tribute but to label him Waterford's greatest ever was insane. Anyone who read about John Keane would know better and what about men like Philly Grimes and Tom Cheasty?

How can one define 'greatest' ... the journalist was using 'poetic licence'. In terms of longevity, Brick is unequalled.

Was any other Waterford player better than John Keane .... no is the answer.

Keane Grimes or Cheasty be lucky to get a game Junior A in the modern game. seen the 1959 final recently and the standard was terrible. awful stuff to watch.

"In 1948 Waterford made the breakthrough once again by reaching the provincial decider. Cork, a team aiming for a sixth All-Ireland title in nine championships seasons, provided the opposition. After falling behind by five points early in the game, Waterford fought back to lead by a point at the interval. Goalkeeper Charlie Ware made some great saves while Johnny O'Connor stymied Cork's chief scorer Christy Ring to secure a 4–7 to 3–9 victory. It was Keane's second Munster medal. The subsequent All-Ireland final on 5 September 1948 pitted Waterford against Dublin. "The Decies" started well and took a commanding 2–5 to 0–2 lead at the interval, with Keane scoring one of the Waterford goals. Dublin rallied in the second half, however, Waterford quickly regained the upper-hand and powered to a 6–7 to 4–2 victory. Playing at centre-forward Keane gave a masterclass, scoring three goals and two points and made most of the other scores. The victory also gave him an All-Ireland medal".

Comparing players from different generations is next or near to impossible.
Watching matches from the 90’s or early 2000’s now even shows how the game has changed with little or no ground striking, the sliothar pucked up to the forwards blindly and the strength and conditioning of players today.
It’s chalk and cheese, especially to compare Keane from the 30/40’s to now.
There’s no denying that he was the best Waterford player from that generation, as were Grimes, Cheasty and Walsh for their generation and Ken McGrath and Mullane for the 2000’s. And most certainly Brick was a fantastic servant and he’s a Waterford hurling legend, even if his hurling ability wasn’t in the same league as others.

Kyle is a cousin. There's another Bennett cousin on the panel too, as is usual with small county clubs
