The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

Funnily enough, on my only visit to Cock Bull, the music choice and volume weren't a problem for me at all,although it is well known for its loud music. I thought the food was pretty terrible, though.

Went to cafe izz on Friday evening before culture night - myself and my friend shared the tasters mix plate with different types of hummous, tabbouleh, stuffed vine leaves etc and flatbread on the side - it was ok but not really to my taste and I found it a bit bland to be honest. I would much prefer umi falafel. I think we should have had the manaeesh as they did look really good so perhaps we just chose the wrong thing. I would go back and have something else next time. The cakes they had on display in the trolley behind us looked really good too and the girl who served us was friendly. It wasn’t all negative and like I said, I would still go back and try something else on the menu.

I was looking for some plain carvery/cafe type food the other day so I decided to try Vanilla Sky in Paul Street shopping centre.
€8 for roast chicken, mash, veg and gravy.
It was tasty, plain grub. In fact it was nicer than a similar meal I had in the Bosun for €17.70.

Great spot for a cheap, uncomplicated feed.

Went to Goldbergs for brunch with the wife, very nice, would recomend it.

Doing a very special family dinner with my wife and three teenagers and looking for Cork city recommendations on somewhere very nice but with a a really good atmosphere and lively/fun. Reservation will be on a Saturday evening and my kids do enjoy good food (as do I). My preference is Elbow Lane but they do not take reservations.

Needed a takeaway dinner for the family on a miserably wet day on Saturday after a very wet kids GAA blitz in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and got one from Soba (Carey's lane) based on recommendations here. Was not bad, will be getting food from them again. Good portion sizes, good taste. Thanks. (off course had to eat in a McDonalds first with the kids, but was happy with the books - David Walliams - that we got with the Happpy Meals)

ok booked Cornstore! Seems to check all the boxes and two weeks out already mostly fully booked so will be lively!

I'm shocked, their van on the Bridge in Kinsale is the nicest around.

That's a surprise, I've gotten fish there a few times and it's always been good. Chips could be s bit better though, but they weren't awful.

Went to Goldie the other day, would recommend it if you're an adventurous seafood eater. There wasn't a whole lot of alternatives for anyone that doesn't like seafood on the menu, so wouldn't recommend it for those, but the menu is highly dependant on the catch of the day we were told.

We had crumpets with seaweed butter, deep fried fish spines, fish jerky, prawn crisps, mussels with garlic butter, and sardines for snacks/starters and everything was honestly great. Dunking the crumpets in the garlic butter from the mussels was amazing.

Mains were ray, stone bass, and a vegetarian dish with carrot dumplings, pumpkin, ricotta, pesto, and dukkah, which wasn't my favourite flavour combo, but very different. The stone bass felt like butter in the mouth and the ray was fantastic.

Specialised wine menu that's clearly tailored to the food, not the same as Market/Elbow Lane. In the same price bracket as those though, and same deal for reservations.

Cork Lass

Went to Cafe Velo for breakfast this morning and was surprised to see prices well gone up. Full Velo is now €12.50. It consists of 2 small rashers, 1 sausage, 1 egg, half a tomato, a slice of black pudding and a hash brown (all spread out on the plate to make it look big. Served with toast and coffee - very good coffee admittedly but too expensive. I had a mini Velo for €9.00 - a rasher, egg and hash brown with toast and coffee. Again, nice but not worth the money. At those prices we won’t be back.

Never been there, mainly because it always struck me as a place that I wouldn't take to. When the owners (I'm assuming it's the owners, if its not then the owners should be doing something about it) park their cars on the footpath outside its an immediate no from me.

Briar Rose today for a late lunch...i had the steak sandwich, herself the chorizo/chicken penne....really enjoyable, plenty of food on the plate and very tasty, nice staff too. two glasses of wine and two coffees all came to less than €50 (incl tip), definitely coming back here some evening for dinner

That Velo breakfast sounds more like a mini breakfast. I've never been but if that parking story is true, that's reason enough to never go.

Was going to go there last weekend with some friends for brunch but one of my friends went in to get a table and they weren’t exactly going out of their way to be helpful. It wasn’t full or anything and they could have moved around a table in order to make room for 5 people but instead they said that we could have a smaller table but they’d need it back in 45 minutes....needless to stay we didn’t go in. Also noticed the prices were pretty steep - that’s mad for a “full Irish” that is in no way way full!

Went to Ristorante Rossini on Princess Street last week. It was extremely busy and for good reason. The food, portion sizes, atmosphere and value were all excellent. Will definitely be back!
