If it goes towards the greenway rollout, Tralee Northern Relief Road and the LED streetlighting project, I'll happily pay the extra 10%.

I'd love to see this too, particularly the Greenway projects but we all know it won't. And I think we all could have a guess where it will go.

These projects should all be funded from federal funds, given the explicit mentions of greenways, the Northern Relief Road (for which there is funding in the NDP), and major retrofitting of energy saving lightbulbs.

At a time when we are beginning to get to grips with the housing crisis, and councils could do with as much money as possible to address it, our idiotic councillors refuse available money.

Have a look at who voted which way:

"Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Sinn Féin, People Before Profit and members of the Independent group voted for the reduction while Labour, Social Democrats and Greens voted to keep it at its basis rate. "

Ok, so Fianna Fail do the populist thing, what can be expected, Fine Gael favour property owners, but what reason is there for Sinn Fein and People before Profit to vote to reduce a tax on wealth? Unbelievable from so-called socialist parties.

Fair play to the Greens, Social Democrats and Labour for upholding true socialist principles and trying to ensure that those who own property pay for those who can't."

Thats a post from last night from a Dublin resident in another forum. I am inclined to agree. Its a tax on property and there are many landlords with multiple properties who can take the hit.
Likewise if we want services we have to pay. We cant keep saying they should be paid from government/central taxes.

Why can't we? We pay 23% on almost every euro spent, pay at least 20% on every euro earned. God forbid you're not inside the m50 and have to rely on a car to get you somewhere - if you do, thats about 60% of what it costs to fill your tank going to this government.

It's a joke, taxes are always going up and we are getting less every year. Fly tipping is out of control around the county, primarily because of the privitisation of waste collection.

I don't think many people would argue with the tax increase if they saw what they were getting for it.

But in all cases it is a requirement that KCC provides substantial matching funding. Now in the case of the various relief road projects, local development levies are ring-fenced to go towards the council's contribution but we'd be waiting very many years for these to accumulate to the required level.

I see Michael Guiney’s is moving to where the old Corcoran’s used to be. Wonder will that store be let out again???? Quite a big space to try and fill.

The original planning permission granted for that space, before Guiney's moved in, was as a restaurant. It would be good to see it split between one or more of the ground-floor units to create larger units that would suit the likes of Zara, H&M etc.

So someone posts here about Golden Discs coming to town and next thing it's a story in the Kerryman. Coincidence or what?!

In a similar vein, I see Dunnes are seeking a Café manager for their NCR store. Must mean the café is reopening, perhaps under their Café Sol brand.

Several years at this stage. All those canteen-style cafés were closed as part of Dunnes's drive to posh-up their offering.

The Golden disks story was in the paper a few months ago, Kerry's eye I think. The chamber alliance had an article about how a few major retailers were in talks about opening here, and Golden disks was mentioned.

Yeah, pretty much. I'd say being used as storage. I think Dunnes bought out Cafe Sol in Dublin and are now going to be running the cafes as same.
They have a little coffee & tea kiosk inside the store for a few months now, self service area in near the bread.

I haven't been in that store, let alone the café in years. Me and my mom used to go there when I was little. Takes me back.

The Horan centre Dunnes suits me better.

Oh lord, that place was dire for quite a few years before it closed.

Tralee retained its Gold medal in the tidy towns competition, and gained 8 points to 331!

I remember going into that restaurant with my mom when I was a young lad. It takes me back to a simpler time. Better times.

Not like the common degeneracy nowadays.

Where are Golden Discs supposed to be opening? Their store on Patrick St in Cork is fantastic, especially the first floor.

Will be nice to be able to buy music (remember paying for music anybody?) in Tralee again. Brings me back to the hours I spent in Lee Records and Roxy Records in the early-mid 90s.

Was it Roxy's you could listen to albums they had head phones and a select number of albums you could listen to

Roxy's was a great shop

I wonder if the gamestop will close. Big overhaul coming apparently.
