Climate saint Greta Trunburg is settling sail for UN climate talks in New York to demand that governments socially engineer and tax the little people into oblivion to save the planet. Accompanied by her film maker father who lives vicariously through her, a filthy rich aristocrat from Monaco and some German bloke the trip will no doubt vastly increase the wattage of her halo before she lectures us all about impending climate Armageddon in New York. Hopefully snaps from the trip will make it into Hello! Magazine.

So she is not your garden variety teenager and only sees the issue in black and white. It is understandable why she does not see nuance in it.
She does not see the teenagers who use technology built by factories in China/India etc - with materials and minerals mined in Africa.

If Greta encouraged teenagers (western teenagers in particular) to move away from dependence on technology it would make more sense. Less damage to the environment as so on.
There is also the question of the developing world and thier need to industrialise to have a better quality of life. Which she never seems to consider.

I'm not heavily invested in this myself as I'll be dead by the time the world explodes (probably) but I caught a snippet of her speech on the news yesterday. I thought it was an incredibly brave thing for a 16 year old kid to speak in front of the UN and it was a powerful outburst. Won't change anything mind you but at least she's trying.

You're right, many children are suffering terribly in many parts of the world. And as a result of the natural disasters/political upheaval that will become more prevalent due to climate change, that suffering will continue and intensify.
I do understand the backlash against Greta Thurberg and far left tokenism to this issue, but people should not allow that to sway or influence their opinions. There are plenty of reasonable, knowledgeable voices warning of the catastrophic harm climate change could potentially do.

Richard Boyd Barrett, a politician I severely dislike, talking about climate change almost made me subconsciously release my inner Trump.
That is the wrong response, we have to heed the expert voices here. The IPCC, NASA, Universities, majority of climate scientists are not part of a world wide hoax.
Their message is clear and alarming.
This issue goes beyond left/right politics.
It will need public support, political support, technological and Scientific support to find solutions.
