On the other consumption of red meat is going to decline in the western world and farming in Ireland is going to become more commercialised and less and less part-time farmers.

Vewy passive pal, please grow a pair.
I asked you to elaborate, no doubt you had notions of what direction you were hoping this really drab thread was going to go? Given how bland your opening argument of " why don't the cops beat up the farmers like they beat up the poor students and water protestors go " , I would have imagined you could have come up with a more robust response.
What is your point?

Months well spent.
It is fine. Listen I respect that you started a thread to give yourself the opportunity to passively annihilate anyone who dare pass a comment on it.
So for the record here is my elaborated opinion, yours, not all that regrettably, remains outstanding. What is it?
But maybe, just maybe, the cops wouldn't be all that arsed getting booted up to go and attack a few hard working citizens who have decided to initiate a peaceful protest over an issue which actually counts towards their survival? It is probably highly likely that the Gards are empathising with the protestors in this instance.
Who is Fintan Cullen?
Like all good protest videos. Cuts to the Police doing something but never shows what happens the few seconds before to lead up to the police doing the "bad" thing.

My point exactly, the Gards are obviously not currently under instruction to break up the protests. They don't want to either by the looks of things.
.... righto...

The reason for some of those protests was a supermarket chain would not answer questions from farming organisations how they were selling beef so cheaply and where were they sourcing it.
You know they might have wanted to know if it was the old "Irish produce branding" which is basically foreign sourced and packaged here mullarkey.
A number of farmers entered supermarkets throughout the country, put as much non spoilable products into trolleys and then left. One farmer I heard of managed to get nearly 300 items into a trolley. Fair dues.
And as far as I know the supermarket chain initiated a call with the farming organisation the very next day. Result.
Maybe if more people had as much cop on and initiative big business and other large organisations would not be taking them always for a ride. The problem is too many people just shrug their shoulders and then moan down the pub or online.

Why should you care since aren't you over in the states probably eating hormone antibiotic laced meat reared on soya and maize.

There are too many cattle including dairy and beef cattle, so this will affect supply and demand keeping prices low. Weather and climate change is not factored in by the EU where there is not enough feed or land for the population and it's going to get worse with the EU wanting more cattle. CAP was set up to protect the French farmers and is also keeping the price low, then add in Brexit. With UK leaving the farmers know there will be less money coming in from subsidies. The current setup is unsustainable and EU farming practices need to change.
