Discussion of all matters relating to this contentious subject is welcome and the potential implications of same.This thread is solely for this purpose.

There appears to be a perception that the moderators are attempting to shut down discussion of this topic and direct same off to a low traffic stickied thread.Nothing could be further from the truth.Our sole motive was to confine discussion to a single thread and prevent cross thread posting which was adversely affecting the enjoyment of fellow posters.

Can we please keep posts civil and constructive in nature.

The Changes in the GAA-super thread is now for discussion of all other suggested reforms not relating to Dublin GAA.

Extra Mod Warning:
Right, a separate warning to both sides in this debate:
Firstly, any more mentioning of "financial doping" or any intimation that rules have been broken by Dublin or that Dublin have cheated are banned from now on. You can debate the issue of the funding that Dublin have received without resorting to that. There is zero evidence of it and posting about it will be considered trolling from here on in.

Secondly, this topic is, like it or not, a big talking point in gaelic football at the moment. You are more than welcome to argue your point, but posting in this thread to simply mock those on the other side or complaining about the topic is known as thread spoiling and is specifically banned in the charter (see point 8 here). No one is forcing you to click on this thread and no one is forcing you to post in it. If you don't like the topic, then don't post. It's as simple as that.

This thread is here so that all the discussion is in one place and it won't filter into other threads. This makes it easier to ignore for posters who don't really want to be involved in it. As a result, we haven't really been moderating it as severely as other threads. However, a number of posts recently from both sides are sailing too close to the wind and getting borderline personal. So please take a minute before you hit submit to ensure that your post won't fall foul of the rules. We'll have no hesitation in issuing cards and/or threadbans to posters who fail to heed this warning.

U20's/U21s Hurlers - never won the cup

Dublin footballers did the 5 in a row because of excellent team management, Jim Gavin installed the winning mentality into the Dublin team - winning the league being the start of it, winning the O'Byrne cup, before then, the league wasn't taking seriously - and still isn't by a lot of teams - which is to their own downfall.

Jim Gavin has thought the players to manage the game, use their heads, 4/5 points down - don't worry keep playing the way they are and the gaps will come, the opposition teams will tire - because they won't have put in the long hard hours in the gym to last 70+ mins.

The hurlers don't have the same management team, they don't have the same belief - they lost to Laois this year - says it all - Jim would never let a Dublin football team go onto a pitch and lose in the way that the Hurlers did.

When Donegal won the All Ireland in 2012 they were drinking and partying for nearly a year. They were happy with winning one, Dublin on the other hand, they want to win more and more. When they won 3, Jim prepared for 4 in a row, and then again for 5 in a row.

Kerry will win in the next few years and their supporters while happy enough with a young teams performance this year wont accept repeated defeats by the Dubs.

Anyway, a once in a generation team, congrats to the Dubs. Other counties need to up their game.

Hurlers have improved from getting hidings by Westmeath to being a top tier side. A Dublin club had never won a Leinster hurling title before. Cuala won back to back All Irelands. Ladies going for three in a row. U-21/20 men’s success way up, four wins and another final, most successful decade they have ever had. It’s not a coincidence all this is happening 15-20 years after a huge disparity in funding levels was created.

It’s proven in all sports that funding is a huge factor in improving outcomes/success, the idea that some have on here that doesn’t apply to GAA is moronic.

Dublin are the best team of all time with some of the best footballers of all time. But anyone who says funding isn’t a factor in their success is either ignorant or simply unwilling to acknowledge a clear fact.

Such tired cliches without addressing the issue I raised eg funding, irrelevant post. What are you talking about? What Kerry supporters accept or won’t accept isn’t going to make any difference on the pitch.

Ah yes the old once in a generation team - half the starters yesterday are new since ‘15.

In a perverse way I’m looking forward to the next decade of Dublin dominating. When they win another 7/8 titles in the ‘20s I wonder what the line will be - ah just unreal the way two once in a generation teams came together but no panic, the success won’t last much longer. Our u-14s are of a very low standard currently, there’s no one coming through at all, Jim just wants to win his fifteenth in seventeen years and he’ll be gone then.

On the topic of declining crowds. Why bother going to games in Leinster if you know you're your team will be taken apart by Dublin at some stage even if they try and put it up to them? It's not Dublin's fault. Finances, exceptional players, and population. It's a combination of all three. The GAA are responsible for the current state of Leinster. I'll only be attending League games from now on. At least you have something to play for.

The dubs refuse to acknowledge the huge funding difference. It does make a difference. Ignoring it won't make it go away or hiding behind the it's good management.

Crumlin won Leinster in 1980. Dublin have never gotten hidings from Westmeath. They beat us in 2006 and that was shock even though we were mediocre at the time and had one on championship game in nearly three years!

Dublin hurlers at county level are now ahead of a few teams like Offaly and Laois, and more experience of playing and occasionally beating teams above them.

Not much different really other than the league and Leinster win. Club is completely different kettle of fish.

Sorry you are correct. It was Laois I was thinking of who beat Dublin by 12 in ‘05. They have obviously been transformed since then, this year they gave Galway their second championship loss in three years and narrowly lost to all Ireland finalists Kilkenny. Laois caught ye on the hop but you’re a long way clear of them realistically.

Dublin are a legitimate top tier side, which was light years pre funding disparity.

Its not being a sore loser and whinging if we are stating stone cold facts that Dublin have in their favour. I have no problem admitting this is the best team of all time. And I have stated on this forum a few weeks ago that Jack Mc is the best player I’ve seen. But it’s difficult for me to say this is the greatest achievement in Irish sport say when all the advantages Dublin have in their favour, they should be dominating like. They are doing what should be expected of the county with By far the most people, bar far the most funding, always having home advantage..

But it’s never going to be any other county. Dublin is where the population is, where the work is for other county players.

As for why is it only the Dublin Senior team winning. Because it’s a professional environment. All underage teams all live at home or don’t have full time job/families, it’s more of an even playing field. They also don’t have 100% home advantage.

The dublin hurling team were absolutely muck when I was growing up now they are competing with Kilkenny and beating Galway. It’s only a matter of time before they win Liam. They also aren’t as dominant as the Gaelic team as hurling wasn’t or hasn’t been as popular in Dublin as Gaelic, but now with it growing its only a matter of time before they become an even stronger and dominant force in hurling.

To be honest it's the players I feel more sorry for. Seem like a genuinely nice group of lads and are undoubtly very talented. However their achievements will be forever associated with financial doping.
