I think I'm a coffee snob

Infernal Racket

Back in the day a good old cup of Maxwell house with the red label used to do the job. Now, the only instant coffee I can stand is Nescafe Azera Americano. I normally make filtered coffee and sometimes those little bullet things that I put in my wife's Nespresso machine. Have we all become a nation of coffee snobs with the amount of choice nowadays? I'm a bit bored at home and this is the only thing running through my head right now.

Correct. Nescafe red label is the stuff that falls on the floor and is swept up and put in jars. The gold label stuff is the coffee that doesn't fall on the floor.

At home I drink Azera Americano and sometimes the Espresso (although its getting harder and harder to find at reduced prices) but do like a nice rich coffee when out and about. Costa's Americano is also pretty good but I prefer Insomnias.

On a side note, I was in a little 'coffee shop' (using the term loosely) in a small village and asked for a coffee. I just happened to catch sight of the gril behind the counter making coffee from what looked like an Aldi own brand instant coffee jar. When she brought over my coffee I asked if it was instant coffee from a jar and she confirmed it was. I asked it was that jar sitting behind the counter on the shelf and she confirmed it was. I asked how they could charge €3.50 for a coffee that costs around €1.50 in Aldi and she went red in the face at which point I got up and left.

I think you might have to start picking out the different flavours and aromas like some form of coffee sommelier in order to be classified a snob.

Sure don't we all need something to enjoy? Hot drinks are the best.

Is there somewhere I could train as a barista in a hurry? I don't want to do any long complicated courses where I have to study stuff to qualify. I'm looking for a quick fix online thing that will teach me just enough that I'm able to act even more snobbish about my coffee drinking?

I buy kilo bags in coffee angel and use them in a french press at work and a french press or mokka pot at home.

Nothing wrong with drinking good coffee.
I get the whole snob thing myself.
Same with Craft beers, if you like good beer you like good beer.
Each to their own and all that.

I’ve hated every cup of coffee I’ve ever drank. All awful to me. I can’t say I’ve tried all the coffees but I’ve had various cups of the stuff handed to me throughout my life from instant to Nespresso to “this place does the best coffee” coffee and I hated it all.

I love caffeine so wish I liked coffee.

True but their is something wrong with not accepting that people have different opinions on what is good coffee. I don't like instant coffee myself but the fact is some people actually prefer an instant coffee brand to other proper coffee brands.

These threads always underline what a low-brow philistine I am, so uneducated is my palate and unrefined are my tastes.

I have one coffee a day, in the morning. You could give me a mug of instant own-brand or an infusion of hand polished beans ground on the molars of the gods and brewed in holy water from Lourdes, and it will all taste equally icky to me. Shame, because the health benefits of freshly brewed coffee are impressive.

Builders tea for me, a good stewing and a splash of milk. Every two hours and served in an ignorantly huge mug, please and thanks.

Weirdly, I like some coffee desserts. Not affogato though which is basically a coffee drink. Way too strong and the sugar from the ice cream doesn’t help.
