The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

Hmm. No detail to discuss, but yup, I take your experience... I haven't been there in about a year, but it was good the last time. That porchetta and sirloin are fairly unique in Cork I thought anyway. Where else does those so I can try the better versions?

Quickly checked trip advisor, the last 20 reviews are positive, except for one which thinks it is too expensive, and another where their port wasn't delivered to the table.

Ramen dropped the 6 before 6 I see, it's now 8 before 8. Wouldn't touch it at that price.

Ah devestated was always a huge fan of the 6 b4 6, especially on hungover sundays. Wont be going there half as much now, cant justify paying an extra 2 euro especially considering they took away the free prawn crackers a few years ago.

Sobas €6.90 special is decent, certainly better than Ramen. Prawn crackers and water served to your table while you wait too.

Try their newish soup noodles menu.
The beef tendon noodle soup is gorgeous, though probably not for everyone.
There are less scary options too.

I ordered different stuff I guess... I wouldn't expect anything but a fairly boring roast chicken from ordering it tbh... but was impressed with the meat I ordered, because you can't get porchetta or that whole sirloin anywhere else (as far as I know! Happy to be corrected!). Those choices are fairly far from average.

Roast chicken I can do at home, I imagine it's only on the menu for the fussy eaters, so wouldn't ever order it out and expect much more than fairly plain food.

So, I guess I think it's a little unfair to give them a slating review based on a roast chicken being a roast chicken, especially when that's the only main you tried there ever.

You're right of course, they should be consistent. Thinking back, I didn't like the Burnt Ends or whatever they were, too greasy for me. But I hadn't had them before, so was a risk. Your gratin should have been better than dry.

I think 8 before 8 is better cause I found it was hard to make it before 6 if u were coming from work or something or meeting friends in the evening.

The point is, its really poor food. At €6 your thinking that's about a fiver its good. €8 your thinking that's almost a tenner, I could go to soba for around that which is far nicer.

I only ever eat the 6 before 6 there, I never knew the mains are €14 each now. It was closer to €10 when it first opened.

Ya I know but if u had arranged to go there in the evening €8 is better than paying €13 if u can’t make it before 6pm.

Gotta disagree that it's really poor food, you wouldn't get a big mac meal for 6 euro, would you consider that better food?

You're getting fresh veg, non-cornflour based sauce dishes with fine quality meat (agree here the meat can be sparse in some dishes), but for 6 euro what do people expect these days.

Definitely better than a Big Mac but that doesn’t mean it’s good. Ramen is like the McDonald’s of Asian food - cheap fast food.

That’s true, 5 chicken tenders on their own with just a sauce is €6.90 in MacDonalds.

Not in several years for some reason but I liked it. I remember enjoying the King Mezze (starters/snacks) a lot - more than the main dishes that I had on another occasion.

Is that the same as Sultan who is at the farmers/Christmas markets? If so, I've eaten it at the markets and it's delicious.

Went to Sultan a few years ago. Was pleasant, fairly big selection and something different, decent portions.

Breakfast in Orso yesterday...often go in to be honest. It’s gorge. Staff are lovely, food is just so so tasty. Never have had a bad meal in there

Ate in Ramen yday eve (i wudn't usually but needed something quick as was out for SFSH festival )..

Gee... €14 for a chicken stir fry which was pretty tasteless... and the chicken musta flown over it.. think I got about 3 pieces of chicken,.. but on the up side, it had lots of nice fresh veg.. so I got my 5 a day lol.. but was hard work eating it - got a bit boring..
+1 got a massaman curry - again, hardly any chicken and was v gloopy..
Staff were nice though and place had good music (woo hoo)

Oh how I miss Sago..

Got a take away yesterday too from there, it was so bland , even the rice. Tasted the kids stuff and that was even less tasty. Would not recommend
