There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

Have been to Sultan only once, but was nice, no complaints. Good food and good service

Went to Sultan a few years ago. Was pleasant, fairly big selection and something different, decent portions.

Not in several years for some reason but I liked it. I remember enjoying the King Mezze (starters/snacks) a lot - more than the main dishes that I had on another occasion.

That’s true, 5 chicken tenders on their own with just a sauce is €6.90 in MacDonalds.

Definitely better than a Big Mac but that doesn’t mean it’s good. Ramen is like the McDonald’s of Asian food - cheap fast food.

Gotta disagree that it's really poor food, you wouldn't get a big mac meal for 6 euro, would you consider that better food?

You're getting fresh veg, non-cornflour based sauce dishes with fine quality meat (agree here the meat can be sparse in some dishes), but for 6 euro what do people expect these days.

Ya I know but if u had arranged to go there in the evening €8 is better than paying €13 if u can’t make it before 6pm.

I think 8 before 8 is better cause I found it was hard to make it before 6 if u were coming from work or something or meeting friends in the evening.

I ordered different stuff I guess... I wouldn't expect anything but a fairly boring roast chicken from ordering it tbh... but was impressed with the meat I ordered, because you can't get porchetta or that whole sirloin anywhere else (as far as I know! Happy to be corrected!). Those choices are fairly far from average.

Roast chicken I can do at home, I imagine it's only on the menu for the fussy eaters, so wouldn't ever order it out and expect much more than fairly plain food.

So, I guess I think it's a little unfair to give them a slating review based on a roast chicken being a roast chicken, especially when that's the only main you tried there ever.

You're right of course, they should be consistent. Thinking back, I didn't like the Burnt Ends or whatever they were, too greasy for me. But I hadn't had them before, so was a risk. Your gratin should have been better than dry.

Try their newish soup noodles menu.
The beef tendon noodle soup is gorgeous, though probably not for everyone.
There are less scary options too.

Ah devestated was always a huge fan of the 6 b4 6, especially on hungover sundays. Wont be going there half as much now, cant justify paying an extra 2 euro especially considering they took away the free prawn crackers a few years ago.

Hmm. No detail to discuss, but yup, I take your experience... I haven't been there in about a year, but it was good the last time. That porchetta and sirloin are fairly unique in Cork I thought anyway. Where else does those so I can try the better versions?

Quickly checked trip advisor, the last 20 reviews are positive, except for one which thinks it is too expensive, and another where their port wasn't delivered to the table.

What was sub par about the eggs benny? Spitjack was one of the few places that actually made a real hollandaise, instead of serving a weird yellow mayo on their eggs. Is that changed?

I went to spitjack for the first and last time a few months ago. The brunch there was mass produced muck including gone off tomatoes on my bruschetta and sub par eggs benedict. Not sure what its like for dinner but avoid brunch here.

Agreed, calling Gourmet Burger 'The standard bearer for burgers on Leeside' is absolute nonsense. I can think of numerous places that do better burgers, Bunsen, Son of a Bun, Cornstore, Liberty Grill to name but a few. Shoddy effort by the Echo

The Echo published that series last year too - same restaurants, same reviews... Nonsense. In one of his cafe pieces, he recommended a cafe in cobh that shut a year ago. I mean, there's no accounting for taste but you can't argue against the facts!!

Baffling that they can't get some food blogger to do a better job with some fancy pictures. I'd say half of them would do it for the exposure alone.

Look at Yay Cork - the clickbait is nonsense but they do a great job of presenting pieces when you do click on the articles. Good quality pictures, up to date info... The total opposite of the nonsense the Echo posted!!
