Beep scheme - anyone joining

As above, €40 euro per calf, seems you can rent the scales for €50 euro.
Not sure on the number of weigh ins required. For me it would be ~800 euro, can’t say whether I’m interested or not

To help stream-line the weight recording process for participants in the pilot, ICBF will be writing to participants with a suggested 4-week window based on your calving pattern within which herd-owners are encouraged to weigh their cows and calves. We would ask pilot participants to please adhere to this suggested 4-week window, in order to maximise the efficiency of the pilot on the ground.

I rang ICBF regarding their letter advising preferred dates for weighing, as mentioned in the Dept T&Cs. They are unaware of this requirement. Did say that weighing weanling ~ 5 months and the cow, would give better feed back on performance.

I weighed spring and autumn calves together. From 2 months old to 10 months old. No problem so far anyhow.

I think you can register it as your own scales.

Asking for a friend....

We've cows and calves scattered around, very fragmented farm. Is there a check on the weights? Basically could you get away with estimating a couple of them?

Not the right thing to do per t&c's but that not the question in this instance

If you have weighed the rest you will guess within 10 kilos anyhow. Who is to say in a month whether that was right or wrong on the day

Putting the straw on the floor is a good idea. When I did mine, some of the cows were cautious of the scales. It didn't bother the calves though.

December I think. My instalment of the bdgp usually comes in around early Dec as does the remainder of BPS. So i figure around then too.

I assume payment will be October with all the others. My guess is the sooner you have the information in the sooner the Dep can process your file for payment...The straw was a great job on the scales as the cows wouldn't go up on it otherwise.

No they shouldn't, I collect mine in the coop on Saturday morning and was told to have it back on Monday morning €50. Now as I have a full time job that actually pays I dropped it back Saturday evening as couldn't be taken time of work... flew through it.. 20 cows, 21 calves all done in about an hour.

Haven't a clue about any of this.

But do ye's just write down the weight of the beasts or is there some sort of ear tag reading, thing a majig on the scales and it sends the weight directly to the dept?
Do ye need a receipt for the hire of the scales?

I got them weighed yesterday. Didn't go that smoothly, but it was all down to my handling facilities. Weighed them in 2 places. First place was away from the house. The pen was only meant to hold cattle for loading and a small crush for AI use. It was either weigh them there or bring them home just to weigh. Suckler cows are next to impossible to work with when things are not set up right.

Booking, collecting and working the scales was no bother. The Tru-Test EW7i is a super job. A bit pricey at €2050 but that includes the EID tag reader and platform......Anyway, job done.

No cow over 800Kg. Had a very fleshy PB limousin at 790kg. Had one cow at 564kg and her 14 month old bull at 502 kg. When you look tru the weights, you can really see the role milk and fertility (late calving dates) play. Fleshy cows also weighing heavy just because they have no milk.

All records mus tbe submitted within 7 days of the completion of the weight recording process. If weight records are deemed unusable as a result (inter alia) of failure to comply with the requirements for use of the scales, then payment may not issueunder the Pilot

Weights must be submitted between 08March 2019 and 01 November 2019in accordance with Annex 1.

Cheers lads, I'm usually good at reading the T's and C's but this one just hasn't captured my imagination. The BIL has a new scales I'll try get it for next weekend.
