The comparison was silly. Walsh could be argued as the worst of those three and Mayo sacrificed their best player on Saturday to follow him everywhere. If Walsh jumped into the first row of concrete benches around the edge, Keegan would've hopped in beside him. Hardly conductive to getting easy space and ball

That's probably true. However, after the hidings they gave us in the past, it's hard to cheer for Kerry. And it would be tough to stomach somebody else finally beating Dublin. That's just me being petty though. A lot of Mayo people are probably entirely with Kerry.

The problem I have with the new age system is that it's a long time for a good minor to become a good senior.

This kid is 16 or 17, top GAA players mature around 26 or 27

It's a full decade before we would ever see him at his prime in senior if he ever made it that far.

Young guys break into the squad at 22 or 23, even that give plenty of opportunities be for a good minor to drop off the radar.

Can't shout for kerry, no way. too much hurt over the years, 1997, 04, 06, 2014 probably the worst of all and then Fitzmaurices comments about that game since. Completely agree with you, i want it to be us that beats Dublin. Up the Dubs!

My dad would probably support Kerry. He has a strange fondness for the county and doesn't really like Dublin.

Personally I don't think we are going to beat the dubs in the next year or two so would much prefer kerry to beat them rather than watching them win 7 or 8 in a row

Sadly, you are right. It would certainly be better for the sport.

i want kerry to either win, or lose by more than 10. Such hidings, combined with lower attendances, will prompt reform in the allocation of resources to improve the overall skillsets

You won't find too many on this thread who will give one single **** about that game. Roll on February (January for the hardcore crazies).

Probably are favourites but they weren't in great form back in April. Lucky to get a draw against Ballina and were well beaten in a league game vs Breaffy. Away to Westport in the next round which could be a tricky one for them.

Knockmore have been the form team this year if you take league into account. However, they've only been missing McLoughlin over the summer while others have been without 4 or 5 players.

Dillon, Gibbons, Plunkett & 2 X O'Connors gave a great spine to the team.
Knockmore going well but as mentioned they have majority of players available for the league

Massive decline in Population in North Mayo. Take a look at Ballycastle, Crossmolina and Ballina compared to a number of years ago. Pubs and shops shuttered. Belmullet did ok for a while but looks to have declined a bit recently.

Belmullet was due to the refinery work. Cross boomed at that time as well.

Yep. Crossmolina did ok while the refinery was being built but Belmullet certainly made the best of it, but that looks to be in decline that will be hard to arrest without some new manufacturing or other stable source of employment. Crossmolina has never really recovered since the closure of the peat lands and Bellacorrick station IMO.

Produced some great players. I was always a big fan of Nallen, Gardiner and McDonald from Crossmolina’s best era.

Brogan was probably one of the most talented from all 3 clubs (perhaps if we exclude McDonald who had an unnatural left boot). Best description I’ve heard of him and his difficulties was as an Angel that fell to earth.

Anybody think the standard of club football has slipped a tad in Mayo?

Maybe that's too harsh when one has Corofin hanging around in Connacht.

I definitely thought there was an element of fatigue in relation to the Mitchels last year.I'd fancy them quite strongly this year.

Thought Mitchell’s went off the boil a little last year alright. I think there’s still a fair bit of competition at the top but some teams that would traditionally have been strong, Crossmolina and Ballina for instance have fallen back a bit.

They finished 3rd in their group last year, ahead of Aghamore. I think Ballina are on the way up again, have a good young team at the moment.
