The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

Whenever it comes up on this thread or elsewhere on boards, there's always a lot of posters that argue that it wouldn't be noticed in the case of an accident, but this is a first hand account of the garage spotting it and reporting it to the insurer. The insurer oddly enough didn't seem to care in this case.

If it's a second hand car, would they know you mapped it or could you play dumb?

A friend's A6 TDI was mapped, I'd say a lot of UK diesels are. It would be a shame if they were on the hook for a claim for something someone else did. Dealer didn't disclose it to them.

Although a GTI PP map would put it in line with Cupra power. I wouldn't have an issue disclosing it if it was a fair quote.

I don't get why the dealer had to inform the insurance company but good to know they didn't go to town on him!

I had an accident about 8 years ago in a MK5 2.0 TDi, I personally didn't map the car but it was definitely done before I owned it. It was a ropey example if I'm honest and had been clocked before I owned it. The car was assessed and written off, I got the €7k payout for the value of the car. The assessor didn't really give much time checking it over and I was glad with the settlement. If we were talking about a bigger claim maybe it would have been a more stringent assessment.

It was then sold to a salvage company and was clocked (again) and back on donedeal again about 3 weeks later.

Yea works fine through Android auto, did you update to the latest version of android auto last week. It's a lot slicker.
If you want YouTube working (it's add free in the car for some reason) you'll need to root your phone as Google have 3rd party apps blocked.

Can the stop start be coded just to ‘remember’ how it was set before the engine was switched off. I know it can on some cars. I find that better option when possible so you if wanted only have to switch it off once but equally could switch it back on at some point if desired. But I agree having to switch it off every time you start the car is annoying.

I have registered for car net on my phone. I was trying to send a map using the we connect app but it doesn't show on my nav. When I try to go into car net all I get is "car net:error".

I have tried resetting it through the car but still get the same message.

What is it about the majority of sellers not being able to post one single decent photo of a car when it's being advertised? I came across one the other day of a wheel that was completely blurry, literally no attempt at all.

It's a pity to see it looking so rough. It has a lovely spec on it. Those seats are very cool looking.
