Oh how i chortled at this one

When we asked for our table to be wiped down, a 23 stone bouncer wearing a WWE “The Undertaker” t-shirt proceeded to use my kebab as a wet cloth to clean our table and subsequently the floor, before using my face to buff it.

Before this happened, I was enjoying the kebab which is why I gave this place 2 stars.

We've only heard rave reviews about Camile and saw the one in Phibsboro won some award, so we were eager to try. Jokes on us, Phibsboro branch didn't deliver to Glasnevin (?), Only the Santry one does.
I recall all the food was ridiculously salty as in inedible, and not in a different taste way but in a "someone slipped and threw way too much of X in " - way. Gave them the benefit of doubt but stuck with Kanoodle ever since and never went back.

Have to say I’m a little “concerned” about the criticisms being levelled at “Ricks” on Dame St.

For its price it would be the best “value for money” burger in Dublin City centre, competing with chippers, burger kings and McDonalds. Sure, it’s no Bunsen/Wow Burger but they would be, almost, twice the price.

“Ricks” real downfall is with the chips and the fact that the route to the toilets is like something from a horror movie about “backpackers” in the wilds of Eastern Europe getting tortured.

But the burger, itself, can’t be “faulted”. Hell, even their chicken fillet burger is good.

Where my concerns arise is that some people have an “agenda” regarding “Ricks”, as it is “Halal”.

The first thing some muttonhead says to you when you mention “Ricks” is ‘Do you know it’s “Halal”?’, this is usually followed with “The burger might blow up!! HAHAHA!!”.

Utter nonsense.

There was a long gone Bangladeshi takeaway (golden crescent or something??)

on side street off capel st a few years ago that I randomly tried. It was pricey enough.

Eating it I remember thinking jeez this chicken is very very chewy. I ended up leaving about 3/4 of it in the bin.

Jasus Ive heard of Delhi belly but this was another level altogether.

I felt like I should’ve just move lock stock n barrel into the jacks for a month.

I still shudder going anywhere near that street

Reminds me of a place on the Barking road i used to eat in occasionally HFC, Halal Fried Chicken. Food actually was pretty ****e but i used to get similar comments from associates

It’s a decent burger, great for a bit of “soakage” before heading out to sink a few pints. As cheap and quick as Burger King or McDonalds and has seating that your “standard” chipper wouldn’t have.

Yep -and on the sober comments I’ve ate there happily in the middle of the day and seriously the meat quality in ricks burger is excellent.

Tasty and good value. The chips are a diff story, poor enough.

They are streets ahead of McDonald’s for example

And way ahead of the average bog standard burgers in most chippers

I would. And have. The burger, itself, is well decent. Especially when you consider the “cost”.

Obviously, I wouldn’t bring the kids but that’s just because it’s still “junk food” but I, honestly, can not fathom how you could think the burger wasn’t “good”.

I know it’s not €8 or served in a “brioche” bun but it’s quite tasty and really what you would call “cheap and cheerful”.

Excellent to a get the “meal deal” before heading out. But, again, the chips are a let down. Edible but you’d want tomato sauce with them.

Is it the “Halal” thing that ruins it for you? I know just bothers some people as it’s often raised whenever that, particular, place gets mentioned.

The worst food I've ever seen or eaten was without doubt in the restaurant in Debenhams on Henry Street, Dublin. They leave curries, pasta dishes etc out for self service in those bain marie things - it's all congealed and disgusting.

Eddie Rockets is the only other place I can't bring myself to eat again. Food arrives cold and undercooked.

I'm tempted to check out that Babylon place though, hard to believe the reviews and would love to see it for myself.

Ricks burger is no better or worse than any bog standard burger van/ greasy chip shop , as would be expected as they use the same ingredients , frozen rangeland burgers.

Not such happy memories for me, Emmet. It’s where I ended up with the woman who would become my ex-wife, after our first date. If I knew then what I know now then I’d have prayed she died of food poisoning that night. Instead we had a very decent fry each, and shared a bottle of pretty poor wine.

Hang on, I mentioned it my post raising my “concerns”. Another poster then said something similar happened to them when talking about a kebab shop, or some such. It’s not some “made up” thing, it happens.

And “Ricks” does not serve frozen burger or “reheats”. The burgers are pretty decent for the part and have that “fall apart” quality when you bite into them.

Have you even eaten there??

Yes i said it re Halal. And the comments were similar only because they didn't understand what Halal actually meant
