Don't finish the game as you will have to start again in NG+ and playthrough everything again to get to the DLC. The boss 'Mergo's wet nurse' is the point you can bring the story to while still being able to do optional content and the DLC. That's the perfect point to try the DLC which is well worth it, it's amazing.

Want to play the DLC for sure at some stage but I'm also eager to finish the campaign as it will be my first time finishing a Soulsborne game which is a big deal for me.

Way too aggressive and with 3 of them I have no idea how to get past them, can barely get a few hits in before they kill me

These games just keep bringing the hurt I didn't have too much trouble with the 3 you mention but it depends I did get badly stuck on them too, more than once. sometimes it's a case of logging off and the next time you get back to it you just breeze through. It also helps that most times I was facing them I would probably be over levelled, gems in weapons, the knowledge it was possible etc.

Beat the freak in third go. In Nightmare of Mensis now and just got to the lamp. Walked over a hill and random spears start sticking out of me lol. Too much to figure out for this evening but I'm guessing keep going towards the building ahead.
