I love short horn cows, they're amazing.
I do a lot of hiking and in the winter you'll see then roaming around the Burren in the winterage, their plumage gets long and fluffy in the winter time.

They have character and look like something out of an old ladybird story book...

For a pet, I think you can't get better than a dog but my favourite animal overall would have to be the elephant. I spent six weeks working with them and studying them, in Africa, many years ago. Absolutely amazing animals.

Dogs - loyal, intelligent and always happy to see you. There’s nothing nicer than opening the hall door to two happy faces and two wagging tails. I love my two boys more than anything and would be lost without them.

If we’re talking about wild animals it has to be the tiger - they are absolutely stunning creatures and so majestic.

Cats, especially Maine Coons. Don't have any now because I have to be away sometimes, but they're wonderful creatures and I want to get two when I'm more settled.

Love dogs too though, so it's a hard choice.

Favourite wild animal would have to be elephants. Strong, intelligent, sensitive, have strong family bonds, what's not to love.

The Blue Whale. I love how it's the biggest animal that has ever lived on this planet yet is completely harmless. Peaceful, beautiful creatures. A gentle giant.

For other animals, it's a toss up between a fennec fox and a leafy sea dragon.

I enjoy a dog, but horses are my fav, and here's why.

A dog is, generally, genetically programmed to be loyal. Over thousands of years, we selected the most loyal dogs and kept their most loyal offspring as companions, and so on.

Not so with horses. We selected horses for their agility and temperament was often an afterthought. So, you don't assume a horse's trust, you have to earn it, very slowly, very carefully. It might take years. It might never happen.

But when you have a horse's trust, they will do any strange thing you ask of them. It is completely unnatural and counter-intuitive for a horse to jump, in straight lines, over intimidating obstacles. But they take the view that, although this seems like a stupid idea, you're generally a reliable person, and they'll trust you. That is a beautiful thing. There is no other animal, that I can think of, which is born to distrust man, and after getting to know you, will risk serious injury and overcome their instincts, just because you ask them to.

There are cynics who believe that horses are goaded and frightened into performing for humans. These people have probably never met a horse. Horses are many times bigger and stronger than we are, they are not frightened into anything.
