It goes against what I believe sport is all about. I understand that it is win at all costs and by any means necessary to some.

I though the foul for the penno was a red card, I thought AOS had a deliberate leg trip that he dressed up as something else and COC was lucky not to get another yellow, the ref bottled it imo. However overall I do agree with you, we were watching it on TV and it came up more than once about all the frees Galway contested that were moved forward. I don't think mayo did that once in the first half. Galway lost it a bit at the end. At the start of the second half Mayo lads dished out a lot of cynical fouls, but then Galway took over. There were so many inconsistencies in the game today. All the top teams do this, Mayo did it better today. That's my version of a complement BTW. On the plus side I think that best thing from today from a Mayo perspective is that COC is back and it makes a huge difference on the scoreboard.
Barlett wrote: » Mayor's game management was poor no doubt about that. But as we've seen before with Mayo whether they're scraping by in matches or winning well, it matters little as long as they win. Mayo give pretty much every team a chance to come back into a game regardless of how they are playing, it's a serious weakness, but one that won't be fixed any time soon. Anyway Mayo were going to beat Galway sooner or later , the same way Galway will beat us again soon. No one keeps the upper hand for long .

Not criticising them did it as they've a big game next weekend, just thought it was interesting that they all did it and gave me impression they may have been instructed to do so.

For all the talk of Mayos injuries, Galway were down some key players. McDaid has never played midfield at this level and it was a massive ask for him. Cooke (who did well in first half) would never have started midfield if we had any other fit midfielders. My thinking at start of game was that we would not be able to cope at all with O'Se. Brannigan hasn't played well all year either so wasn't filled with confidence seeing him in there. I am mindful of my need to watch back the contest.Donie's rather rash slide tackle.Crazy stuff. Overall very happy with the performance, most especially the first half.Much more at a performance level that has long been a distant memory. It was a very decent contest IMO with both teams enjoying periods in the ascendancy.Galway with a new manager in situ have an awful lot of talented footballers and some frightening prospects like James McLaughlin and Tomo Culhane. Our own Ethan Henry is quite a prospect. Power's error was a key moment from Boyle's fluffed attempt(he should never be permitted to kick a ball ),Carr took both goals with a degree of aplomb.Peter Cooke was imperious for Galway when many others struggled. Cillian is like marmite, largely loved in his own county in spite of his flaws but outside of one missed free he was excellent today, making such a difference to keeping the scoreboard ticking over. His link play with our now main threat from play Darren Coen was a joy to behold.I can understand his lack of popularity outside our borders. I thought our footpassing was very good today and our intensity in all aspects was top notch..tackling etc.I found it a tad strange a flourishing Kevin Mc was taken off so early? Was Paddy struggling with cramp at the death or was that a tight hamstring? Eoin O Donoghue got albeit a brief cameo. Fergal Boland was in the match squad after all. A missed penalty,I thought it bizarre that a Shane Walsh...did not take the penalty.Good save from David Clarke. He'd a good game although his kickouts cost us a couple of scores. Aidan O Shea did a trojan amount of work defensively. TBH I can't for the life of me see how Lee Keegan was fit for noimead amhain of action given how he was injured last Saturday night.A simple twisted ankle? 3 more games anyway, not sure where it's going to take us but I'm sure going to enjoy the journey.

But it's a tad played out, they've gone through a match of crazy levels of intensity and need to recuperate with a short recovery period until Killarney. Those same fans get ample opportunties to mix and mingle with their heroes. Great to see Tom Parsons still involved in the setup in some capacity.

I know it's mostly young kids doing this at Mayo games but we could do with a bit more separation between players and supporters straight after games. I'm sure there's plenty of time for autographs and photos if people want to hang around for half an hour after the match, without charging onto the field the second the game is over.

Strange game with the soft goal at the end putting a nicer slant on it for Galway. But the run of wins over us is well buried now. Shocking display of ill discipline shown by them, could have seen a few more blacks or reds but our lads held their heads. Onwards to Kerry now.
