No they're seems to be correct from context. Their rapists and some I assume are good people does not make sense. Some of their good people? Some Mexicans are good people.

They're rapists and some I assume are good people makes more sense as the immigrants are already established as the subject.

I've been at a few 4th July celebrations over the years, and they've always been non-partisan celebrations of the creation of the USA. It's a day to partaaaay! It's NOT a day for politics and associated division and strife. It is also not an overtly jingoistic day.

This one seems to have been hijacked by a narcissistic leader purely so that he can have people looking at, and lauding 'Great Leader Trump'! By definition therefore, he's going to alienate over half the people who would usually be there. PAthetic!

I really don't see how it has any discernible difference other than perhaps it could be argued that they might mean a different proportion of them are rapists... but that's really not any better and doesn't change what he's saying.

I do agree that that rhetoric was taking it too far as it implied he was saying they were all rapists. However, I think considering he qualifies his statement with "And some, I assume, are good people", it does seem like he was saying the majority of the Mexicans coming into the US were bad people (with a subset of those being rapists), and a minority were good people. Either way, I don't think the distinction between "They're rapists" and "their rapists" really has any impact on what it is Trump was actually saying.

Photos indicate a small selection, I see a couple of tanks, bradleys, a recovery vehicle and the like, but not in huge numbers. It is also claimed that in order to prevent damage to the infrastructure, they will be static, and not actually part of the parade.

The infrastructure excuse is total BS, they won't damage it, but few people realise it (It's a problem we have with parade organizers as a whole, who think that because a tank is heavy, it is going to damage something. They don't realise they are far less damaging than a truck or car). It seems likely to me, and this is just my guess, that it's the DoD's response to the concerns about politicization of the event. It's not as if the presence of the military is entirely out of place in an event centered about the independence of the country which saw the creation of the US military to achieve it, but they're not happy with the rhetoric around it.

IIRC, I read that Nixon tried to organise some sort of similar event at a time when his popularity was quite low. The public weren't buying it however.

@Manic: France manage it and the damage but the issue is the rhetoric. It is being done entirely because Trump wants a military parade for himself it is all based on one mans ego and he is simply highjacking the US celebration to please himself.

Not at the same scale. The last time there was a major military parade in DC was 1991 after the Iraq War, and M1 tanks seemed not to have been a particular problem as regards the infrastructure.

Federal tanks will sometimes appear in local parades near an Army base, or privately owned tanks are not uncommon, but I can't recall the last time there was an event at the national level involving the military after 1991.

Oh it has been scaled down absolutely because it was being politicised; all the rhetoric has been wrong and disproportionately about Trump wanting his "Salute to America". As I said IMO, there's an extra element at play that military parades conjure up way too many images in the collective psyche of Americans. Speculation on my part completely but I can get how it'd make a lot of people very uncomfortable,

He attended Bastille Day, so assuming the first one I guess that would have been July '17. IIRC he was quite vocal about a military parade after returning and there WAS one planned for a while, yes. It was quietly mothballed after much "I want one of those!!" comments in public from Trump.
