Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new mower for ourselves. I also help another lad every so often to cut his and he does a bit of work for me if I require. I do around 90/100acres between first and second cut and he does around the same.

I have an 8ft trailed mower which is 18yrs old. We done a but of damage to it yesterday and now it looks like the bed might need to be stripped as no drive is going to the bed. Conditioner and outer disc is turning but nothing else. One of the discs split yesterday and cut around 1/8inch into the bed after busting itself. The Joy's.. 😭😭

We are also looking at perhaps getting a mower between us. I was looking at a rear mounted mower in place of the trailed one. The trailed one if the hills are slippy tend to slip behind you and also sometimes have a tendency when lifting the bed to lift if turning on a hill. Another lad next to us has a mounted one with a conditineer. Seems happy with it.

I have a T6.155 and we were looking at the McHale mower as there is a dealer near us. They seem to be more competitively priced than a krone one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on this. Thanks

Well lads I think we're goin to go with the claas disco 3200 contour mower. We had a look at it yesterday and it appears to be a well built machine. We looked at the krone mower also. Equally as good a machine. These are perhaps the only makes of dealers near us that had machines we liked. Driving factor for leaning toward the claas is the dealer is the nearest.

From what I've heard over the years I'd go with Krone but as you can see everyone has an opinion

OP hope yiu dont mind if i put this here rather than a new thread.....

Looking at a new Claas 250 disc mower for own use.... mow 60 acres of meadow, possibly top 100 acres pa.. just a standard disc mower, 8 ft cut... local dealer.... seems reasonably robust construction.... €7200, or 0% over 3 yrs...
Only negative I can see with it is it doesn't have quick change blades...

Looked at a secondhand Krone 8ft 4 yrs old, asking €6k. Must check the price of a new Krone but over 8k I expect...

Anyone have a similar type Class, any issues with them?

I have a 240 I think but is 10 or 12 years old. No issues with mine and bought second hand. My contractor had a similar one to mine and I know he changed a gearbox but it would have being doing 500+ acres/year and it would have been all the rough stuff that the trailed mowers weren't put into

My contractor has a trailed pottinger, she mows very nice, well built. I was looking at a 8'6 mounted second hand but went for a second hand krone. She's a grand mower, no belts and easy to put on the tractor. I had a jf before and it was a rotton job to put it on

Can you get it new under Tams? Now they only allow the price to be €5,600 max but it's €2,240 off the price.

For the same reason one of the lads at work wouldnt touch a krone. His unclewas contracting and bought 2 new in the 90s.
Both broke theiir hearts and fell apart literally.
Returned to the dealer after the 2nd season.
When they were being collected , they spent a good bit of time bring out all the broken parts from the workshop.
That said i have a krone 243cv myself and find it grand
But id be a fan of a kuhn myself .
Ive used 1360 and 1365 john deeres and find the kuhn is a better machine

A super mower in my opinion. Have one 13 years .never missed a beat & built strongly.

I've a malone 9ft trailed here falling apart now after 5seasons I've 2 jds 1365 here too savage mower , if you get the curved kuhn blades on them. they are 90e a box though but the great thing is there is no left or right the curved blade is designed that the air drives down the blade making a better cut

We had an early Malone 8ft rear disk mower. Could not cope with heavy meadows, blocking, belts slipping etc. Then when topping used to leave grass trawneen's behind, I was convinced that the blades were too thick. Only kept it one season....

Stick with a well known brand.... Kuhn, Krone, Vicon, Keverneland, Taarup, condition more important that age or brand....

I'll never buy anything off them again right disappointed the gearbox and all has gone 1k for that the bed keeps loosening from the main frame and they are widely known for tipping over when lifted at the end of a row when turning left

Could you elaborate a bit more on those blades please. A link to a web page selling them would be great!
