The comparison was silly. Walsh could be argued as the worst of those three and Mayo sacrificed their best player on Saturday to follow him everywhere. If Walsh jumped into the first row of concrete benches around the edge, Keegan would've hopped in beside him. Hardly conductive to getting easy space and ball

It really could have been worse. Despite our problems, If we can't beat Armagh at home in a high stakes game, then where are we going? Not going to be easy an game but you'd still have to be confident.

I agree with the bolded but in fairness it couldn't have been much worse given the draw

Tyrone were obviously the one to avoid but Kildare and Armagh were always in the tricky next category

I reckon Offaly, Laois, Westmeath, Clare would have been all straightforward

We could have had Kildare, Tyrone or Armagh away. Tyrone at home would have been a tougher assignment too.

Ok, the home and away thing fair enough, but from memory we've never shot the lights out in Castlebar in the Back Door, all I can really remember are that Derry debacle and the Fermanagh game where we struggled for long periods. I always thought our better performances actually came away from home at this stage

Tough fixture, but as already mentioned if we can’t win this one, whats the point of having genuine AI ambitions? Virtual certainty I’d guess Sky will cover this one, so a 5 or 7 throw in on Sat eve.

We beat Kildare at home as well a couple of years back but I take your point, our record at home in recent years isn't anything great. I'm still glad it's in Castlebar though, that was a long trip on Saturday. Now just to find out if we're on Saturday or Sunday.

Tyrone was obviously the hardest tie Mayo could have got.

Kildare,Clare,Armagh are all around the same level and all Div 2 teams. Laois,Westmeath just promoted to div 2 are a level below those 3 teams and Offaly are the worst team left.

I think it's a tricky one. My main concern is McHale Park - our record there is not good.
Secondly, our defensive frailties - they have a couple of quick, smart forwards that will present a stronger challenge than Down. I would be worried about our apparent lethargy in defence, especially when ran at.
Honestly, in some respects I would have preferred Tyrone. We are used to playing them and I think we would genuinely raise our game somewhat for opposition like that. This game is harder to predict.
