Hope he means it and it’s not just post win euphoria. He’s really surprised me with his attitude given the stories about him before he signed and seems to be a good presence in the squad.

Also credit to a Klopp that a player like him is content with his role in the squad.

This doesn't surprise me to be honest, it's not like he was a peripheral figure last season. He was our go-to attacking player for a little stretch this season.

Yes, he's clearly not in our first strongest eleven, but he's a vital squad player. I would venture to say we would have only hit 90 points this season without him.

He played in 24 league games, 11 of which were starts. That's really plenty of football when you take into account all the cup games he'll start too.

In certain matchups it even makes sense to play Shaquiri and the front 3, so it's not like he has to rely on an injury or resting to get in.

He'll get plenty of matches and is very much a key part of the team, would not make sense for him to agitate for a move nor would it make sense for us to move him on unless we got a ridiculous offer.

Obviously great that he's showing professionalism and is happy with his role, but it's not like he's Mignolet for who it must be a lot harder to feel like he's central to the team.

EDIT: Also is the reddit (great site) thing and in joke?! Seems everyone refers to it as a great site when referencing!

Yes it's an in joke. It's only "great" as a news dump to be honest and since the info shut down by the club it's not as useful as it once was. You can't have a real discussion because if you get down-voted the post disappears. Hmmm, then again! :pac:

It definitely is a way to say 'pay me'. But like every job, you can be happy in your job and have no interest in leaving but you still want to be paid the going rate. He's become the best centre half and one of the best players in the world so him getting a pay rise is deserved.

With every passing game he's becoming the best and most influential player I've seen play for Liverpool.

But , it is seriously taking the piss in a way. Football is just crazy.

We invested 75 million and got a contract for 6 years - the ink is hardly dry on that contract.

Lallana asked if he was leaving Liverpool this summer.

So that will be like having 2 new players next season with Lallana & Ox fit and ready to go.

But i can't see him regaining that form as he is injury prone & our style of play is demanding. I would sell if a decent offer came in.

He's out of contract next Summer when he'll be 32 but we've an option of another year.
Imo he's at the very bottom of the first team midfield options now. Behind Fabinho, Hendo, Gini, Ox, Keita, Milner & Shaqiri.

Posted it here a good while ago , didn't go down well at the time. But I think we have gone above the level of Lallana now at pool.

Can't see him playing a future at pool - we should sell him whilst we get a decent wedge for him. Fit and playing the key to that.

I think it would be remiss not to mention Fabinho too. He's a great man for a carefully deployed clip or trip, followed with a hands-up "i did nothing ref" look. If he continues his excellent first season form (after the settling period), he's gonna be a collossus next season.

Would let Lallana go. Hasn’t contributed anything in over two years and can’t think of a time when you’d say ‘What we need here is Lallana’. If anything it’s at the stage now where he’s detrimental to the team with too many touches and constant Cruyff turns.

Milner seems to have the knack of not getting booked for it though, it’s almost Lucas-esque. Fabinho hasn’t quite got that yet.

It positively astonishes me that this man's opinions hold weight with anyone these days. It shows the paucity of eloquent footballing heads when he's still in gainful employment in this country. An absolute fossil.

Late to the party, but after being away for a couple of days directly after the final, I at last got a chance at last to watch the match again today. Strangely enough, as much as I gave out about each mistake we made, or each ball that didn't work etc. during the game, watching it back we were actually a lot more disciplined and in control than I thought at the time (due to stress of course!). It was only the last 15-20 mins that Spurs were on top, as they had to go for it.

Anyhow, just some things I noticed...

- As has been said, the penalty was the second quickest ever goal in a final, with Maldini scoring against us in 2005 being the quickest goal.

- The more I look at it, and the more I read up about it, I think it's a 100% definite penalty, according to the rules, but it's a harsh rule. Niall Quinn read out the directive given to Uefa CL Referees by the Head of Referees when VAR came in, saying that if the arm is out from the body and above the shoulder then it *has* to be penalised. So, a definite penalty according to the rules, but I'd have to say the rules are a little harsh.

- Just as Salah is running up to take the penalty, Henderson can be seen sprinting towards the box, timing his run so that he only enters the box after Salah has touched the ball, and will be at full speed to meet any rebound.

- Us scoring was the first time we led in a European Cup final since 1984.

- Mané made some great runs with the ball, especially in the second half, which not only took pressure off us but set up attacks, including Milner's close shot.

- Spurs first shot on target was in the 73 minute, and that was the soft chip from Ali that went straight into Alisson's hands (though from the camera angle for a second it looked like it was top corner!). Spurs then got more on top and from the 79 minute onwards they had 7 shots on target, though some of them were tame.

- Alisson's saves were excellent in how easy he made them look, and how well he executed them. He never once pushed the ball back into the danger area from a save, it was always off to one side, or for a corner.

- When Eriksen took his free kick, Kane just pushed Robertson to the ground to make room for the shot. He didn't lean into him or shoulder him, he just pushed him to the ground. Robertson should have been stronger, but it also should have been a free out.

- Both teams took ages to take their throws, I'd love to time how long the ball was in someone's hands during the game...

- Our corners were poor, too many of them hitting the first man. The last one worked out well though!

- Robertson had some great crosses though, he didn't get an assist but several of them were in the danger area and close to someone getting on the end of them. It was his cross that got us that all important corner.

- How many weird mis-hit shots from Van Dijk led to goals this season? He had one for Origi's goal, he did it for Origi against Everton as well, and I have a recollection of at least one more I can't place?

- Kane finally got a shot on target in the 93 minute, straight at Alisson

- It was the first final since 2010 where a team kept a clean sheet, and the first final ever to have no yellow or red cards.

- I'd never seen the winning team give the losing team a guard of honour while going to collect their medals. Is that a new thing or have I just not noticed it?

That's about it really, great to watch the game in a much more calm manner. We actually didn't play as poor as I'd thought we did on Saturday, we just played in a controlled, 'hit them on the break' manner, with a very disciplined defence, so it looked poor compared to our usual high intensity. But it was just us showing another string to our bow, and showing we knew what it took to win.

Firmino is also decent at sticking a foot in and not getting booked for it. Fernandinho and City are the masters of this tactic and yet it's something that I've seen a lot of whinging about from some fans, no point complaining about it and then wanting us to be more like that.

Sturridge's goodbye;

What can I say… It’s been one hell of a ride at this beautiful club. We were together for seven seasons and took a little break in between. We had a lot of highs and lows together but through it all remained together knowing that one day we’d have to break up. That time is now.

I wanna say to the fans I love you all. You made me feel so welcome and embraced me with open arms. The Sturridge dance became famous at Anfield and I’ll never forget the first time I did it in front of the Kop.

To my teammates old and new, thank you for the memories, the banter was unreal. You all played a part in making me the man I am today. This isn’t a goodbye because Lord knows we’ll stay in touch no matter where I am, so speak soon.

To the coaching staff, thank you for everything, pushing me to my limits in every aspect to become the best I can be, that goes for both old and new. Special shout out to the managers, Jürgen and Brendan for guiding my steps and helping me be the best I can be.

The fitness and medical department, thank you for being on point through the lowest moments but also the highs. Your time and effort for not just me and the lads has been appreciated. I’m grateful I got to thank you all in person outside of social media.

Special mention to Chris Rohrbeck for his work all season. Paul Small, you’ve been there with me from the beginning to the end and at England. Nothing but love and respect for you. Lastly, Andy Massey, you went above and beyond so thank you so much.

Kitchen staff and everyone at Melwood, thank you for all the hours you put in behind the scenes to make sure I was taken care of along with the players. Special shout out to my other mothers, Caroline and Carol. You both are absolute legends! Lee and Graham, thanks [for] making life easier from boots to gear, top men!

Ray, Jane, Rachael and Louise, I’ll miss you guys, just know I’m forever grateful to you for everything you did for me.

To FSG, you guys have done everything in your power to ensure the club has gotten back to the top and it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with you. Special mention for Mike Gordon, who was more than just one of the owners but a mentor who has given me advice in and out of football. Tom Werner, you’re an absolute boss and I’m still waiting on my cameo in a movie. John W Henry, thank you so much for being incredible with me through my tenure at Liverpool. Lastly, Mike Edwards, who was a big part in recruiting me to the club. Had some great banter with you over the years.

I’m so happy I was a part of the club’s sixth Champions League win because all the fans have deserved it for all the support they’ve given me and [the] club during my tenure.

Quite nice... feels like one he actually wrote himself (very obviously not always the case with these things!).

As a little aside, i've noticed on some of the name-checks, like this one, and Klopps after winning, Tom and John always get a mention, but Linda never does. Seems like a bit of an oversight given how prevalent she is at all the same moments and events.
