Is ethnic globalisation inevitable?

Today John Cleese says London no longer feels like an English city, and I'm sure many people of his generation agree. We're increasingly seeing more and more people in the world try to fight growing tide of globalisation at the ballot box, movements like Brexit and Trump were largely fueled as a result of a backlash to ongoing globalisation.

Have a look at the percentage of white British population in the UK for example since World War II:

1951 - 99.8%
1961 - 99.2%
1971 - 97.8%
1981 - 96.5%
1991 - 94.5%
2001 - 92.1%
2011 - 87.0%
2021 - (probably somewhere in the 80%-85% region)

This is only going in one direction. Now I'm personally a fan of globalisation and embrace this change, but a lot of people as we know don't and movements like Trump and Brexit are largely motivated (although not every Brexit/Trump voter I stress voted because of this) to try and stop what they see as the erosion of the nation state and ongoing cultural and ethnic globalisation.

I personally think these people (e.g. Gemma O'Doherty) are on losing cause, ethnic globalisation to me is simply inevitable. The vast majority of human population isn't white, infact only 10-15% is, and obviously a lot of non whites are going to continue to flock to wealthier countries (which largely happen to be white) and thus demographic changes ensure.

Is ethnic globalisation of humanity inevitable?

The truth of the matter is both sides of the debate are right

Everyone has the right to cultural identity, and if it's being washed away by excessive amounts of badly managed immigration than its fair that people speak up.

But globalization is also the right answer....there is no other way to raise the living standards of the global population and solve the problems that lead to conflict.

Redefining the nation state in a way that respects cultural heritage and identity is the way forward. So is personal development and moving away from primitive tribalism. Perhaps transhumanism will save us from ourselves.

Doesn't that have more to do with isolation? Tribes, families etc that don't have exposure to others are more likely to experience some level of xenophobia. The places in the Uk that have the greatest dislike of migrants are the places with the lowest levels of inward migration.

There's a difference between some migrants moving into your country and the way North marica etc were colonised. What happened to the native americans could be considered deliberate genocide.

And even if they were the same, which they're not, it's hypocritical to celebrate the one and condemn the other.

People, especially groups of people, think in straight lines. Event A has led to event B...therefore event C is inevitable.

Its almost always wrong.

Very generally, I think a lot of "inevitabilities" such as flying cars, AI self-driving cars everywhere and such are in the same category of the 1950's idea of everyone having a nuclear reactor in their home by X date. It seemed plausible at the time.

But dead wrong. Things wont go as expected, and probably not even close to it.

This general idea of globalisation is the home nuclear reactor of the early 21st century, probably seen as a quaint notion when looked back upon.

Globalisation and Multiculturalism means that in a hundred or so years kids will look at history books and think Wow!! Look at how diverse the world was back then! All those different peoples, cultures, languages and nations!

Multiculturalism ultimately means the destruction of culture

And us. Ireland has completely changed economically since the 80's.

That doesn't mean it has no downsides but saying globalisation is bad is very blinkered.
I'm no fan of unregulated capitalism but that doesn't mean I'm against capitalism.

They also tend to be extremely hubristic and confident that theirs is the one holy truth, which all will conform to.

I think that is not a bad idea but those campaigns dont seem to ever deliver any real results, Germany undertook many expensive measures such as offering free child minding and other perks to incentivise people to have more children but as far as Im aware it had a fairly negligible impact on the birth rate

Ya have one lad talking about reducing population for environmental reasons then ya have this speil. Which is it. The only reason mass migration is let happen is to imcrease consumer count. Weather it's at the tax payers expense or not is another debate. The rest is altruistic notions

The general online and offline word coming out of Ireland these days is most are delighted with people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds moving and living here now.

I do wonder will the same people be happy if the current trend continues over the next few years? And because of our small population and small country in general it could become a problem for numerous reasons.

Add in the fact the government doesn't look after the long term benefit of the average Irish person and we already have a housing crisis that they seem to think building apartments and houses on every spare piece of land will fix!

I really doubt that is the attitude in general. Who in Ireland wants people coming here claiming fake asylum, creating extra headaches for this country and offering nothing of note to society?? Personally, I do not have any issue with people coming here who are highly educated & who will offer something to Ireland but that is not the case 99% of the time.

I would agree that is the prevailing attitude, most people have no problem with decent foreign people living here. The ones Tony mentioned are of course less welcome but that is just a minority.
