To me this is normal things people do.

I'm not sure whether that's true or not, but it certainly helps me relax. I try to bring the dog, so it looks like I'm doing it for his sake. But when I didn't have a dog, I used to feel a bit weird doing it. I'd try my best to go in secluded areas where I wouldn't be seen. I remember once going for a walk and bumping into a flat mate who was coming home. At one point he said "what are you doing?" and I answered "oh I'm just going for a walk". He then said "oh right good on ya" but there was that little giggle as he said it! It amazes me the way youngsters don't seem to be able to appreciate the beauty of nature. Their house could be built in the middle of a landfill and they couldn't care less. Or maybe they would if they took their heads out of their smart phones!
