He was told that officers in charge of B Company had "lost control", that the Paras were of the opinion that anyone, regardless of sex or age, on the streets could or should be shot.

They didn't leave the north to rot the UK left the north to rot, that's the government who let them down.

The southern government where making a balls of the south at the time, honestly it was an entirely different state, where they have limited influence.

You think the full facts where broadcast down here either it was hidden and covered up.

The more you look into the Troubles the darker it gets, what went on there at times (from different elements from all sides) is absolutely shocking and almost unbelievable. I don't think younger people today realise just how bad things were at times.

I wasn't aware of what happened in Ballymurphy until I watched this and brutal as it is it gives an insight into the early years of the troubles. Anyone that tries to defend the actions of the British Army or suggest they were a reactive force defending themselves from attack should be made to watch this.

I think irish people should boycott the daily mail given the articles they put in in defence of paratroopers conviceted in the North. The hatred their columnists have is evident in the online articles. How any Irish person could work for them is beyond me.i dunno why they bother with an irish version of the paper.

The terrible thing is that Ballymurphy is not even the worst of it.
Some British soldiers have admitted in interviews (available on Youtube) that they would drive around Catholic areas in unmarked cars at night and simply shoot anyone they saw walking down the street...without even knowing whether they were Catholic or Protestant, just execute whatever unfortunate individual they came across.

It was a turkey shoot which happened all over the north, it was deep rooted racism against anyone Irish. No wonder the IRA emerged in a fightback back then and yet the Indo readers down here think it was all jolly for Irish citizens up there.

Even on this site you'll get the usual cohort of poster's who will post something along the lines of the provos were an unneeded faction in the north.

When you point out that they were actually a result of the British warmongering and a sectarian state, you'll usually get a stock reply along the lines of "whataboutery".

When those who make the law, and those who are supposed to upkeep the law routinely and indiscriminately break the law, then there is no law.
