Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

On the app recently there are numerous listings late at night, mainly American Airlines to heathrow or Belfast with equipment listed as "RFS"

I do not think these are flights to be honest, but seem odd, any ideas?

    Road Freight Service?

Do the coastguard rescue helicopters use ADS-B? If so, how come they aren't visible on FR24?

EI-ICS does. The rest are still on older MLAT based technology

Sometimes they do but more usually they will use the AIS system so they are visible to seafarers.

RFS is Road Freight Service, cargo comes in from one flight and is transferred by road to a different airport for an onward flight to a different destination

Just to be pedantic, the transponders aren't MLAT, they're Mode S. MLAT (Multilateration) is the technique that FlightRadar use to calculate the position based on the transponder's responses to ATC radars and other aircraft's TCAS systems.

This requires multiple FR24 receivers to pick up the same response, so they can compare the time the signal was received to calculate the position. Coast Guard helicopters generally fly fairly low, and so are unlikely to be in range of multiple receivers.

Just to be pedantic, that wasn't really being pedantic, it was correcting something and was informative 😀

Fair enough, just trying to dull the nerdy, lecturing tone then.

All the Irish Coast Guard fleet become visible on FR24 once above a certain altitude, ive only ever notice this when they are 2,000ft & higher this of course is with the exception of EI-ICS which is visible all the time, other than that they are constantly visible on Marine Traffic with AIS.

Can we expect some diversions and missed approaches this evening with the red warning ?

Shannon has a TAF of 44kt gust 66kt from 300 degrees between 8pm and 10pm tonight which will as good as close the airport

Test flight after maintenance before going on to a new operator.

Well, EI 885, Malaga to Cork is sitting in the hold as winds in Cork are already out of limits.

Dublin airport has go-arounds and no more approaches.

    Switching to 16 perhaps?

    Yes, gone to 16 now

Ei885 on 8th approach now I think - over an hour trying to land - ETA was 17:20

    They're not approaches, that's a holding pattern.

EI3833 /STK3833 passing Dublin now to Cork or will they bother heading down?

Prop plane from Manchester glided in first attempt with no issue while the Aer Lingus was trying to get down. Not sure if it used the perpendicular runway?

EI-EZC - is that a Volotea charter ex SNN? Thought they only flew from Cork to Verona?

The crew were requesting a few thousand feet on runway 25, on Live ATC while the Stobart was landing.

This seems to match the tail number for the ORK to AMS flight tomorrow morning, EI-DVL . Does this mean that flight might well be affected?

Well it will depend what happens the aircraft and crew once the storm subsides later.

As it stands Cork is now down one aircraft.

No its 2, EI-DEN and EI-DVL are currently chilling in Dub.
EI-DEP is just taxing to 16 at ORK and operating to Lisbon

See a few Ryanair’s circling cork and Shannon. One looks headed up to Dublin. Also an Aer Lingus regional headed to cork from Manchester. Surely that’ll be diverted too.

2 of them got in earlier while Aer Lingus and Ryanair diverted. Latest METAR shows it blowing straight down Runway 25 so could be doable for them.

Would not fancy being the passengers in that bean tin! Did that once before during that December 2015 storm, it was a horrible experience

Just heard the nightly Manchester to Cork EI flight overhead now so it’s obviously going to try and land in Cork anyway.

Looks that way! But a Ryanair is still circling. Surely it’s more difficult land the turboprops in this ?

There are 2 ATR's inbound which i reckon will choose 25, a Ryanair is still doing the rounds south of the airport

Just told Shannon their landing at Cork Ryanair holding and Shannon Ryanair diverting to Dublin

The props can use the shorter runway 07/25, the wind is literally blowing at 250 degrees so they are straight into it.
07/25 is too short for 737/ A320's, they have to use 16/34.
