The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

Advert says it's just imported so I'd say it's been sold by a wheeler dealer. It's had a fair bit of driving since then.I'd hazard a guess that price might not include VRT either. MOT also shows that car had 42k miles when it was tested back in Nov 2017.

If I was going down the import route I'd just find my own one in the UK.

I'd assume it needs to be VRTd. What's the vrt on a mk7 non PP?

I absolutely wouldn't touch it myself, but if you had the know how and it ended up being a decent one, you could surely get it for less than the list price and have yourself a good platform to start from.

Well if the seller can buy it in the UK and still sell it here for a profit then surely it's worth sourcing your own one from the UK and just cut out the middle man?

The PS4's I got went on a 110hp TSI. They replaced Bridgestone Turanza T001's which gripped well in wet and dry and were very predictable when on the limit. Downside is they lost grip fairly suddenly at 20,000km (guessing around 3mm).

They did tend to spin out a bit accelerating quickly out of junctions/roundabouts so I wanted something with more grip. The PS4 are around €20 more per corner. I've read plenty of posts online of people getting 30k+ on them with no obvious drop in performance. If I can get 30k on them it means they're actually better value than the Bridgestone and they have rim protection on them which is a nice bonus.

Best bet is to do some homework on the likes of the PS4, P Zero, Eagle F1 AS3 and so on and see what's best for your budget. On paper the PS4 are expensive but it's not too bad if they last.

I may be in need of replacing a corner after a slight run in with a curb. Bought the car with autogreen 225/35ZR19 88W supersport chaser on the front axel.

What would the normal sizes and ratings be on a GTD with 19” Santiago?

Pretty sure these were run flats which are not as comfortable and less grip than traditional tyres?

Autogreen are cheap Chinese muck that's why you had less grip! A few recommendations were made a few posts above..

I managed to make myself feel car sick last night and fairly dizzy. Getting familiar with the PS4's on the drive home from work last night with some hard braking and pushing it through some roundabouts. They're definitely grippy tyres alright...

There's a UK YouTuber "officially gassed" that has something similar done on his R, running 500ish bhp.

If the car is reliable at that output then it's not bad value. Turns a quick car into something that would leave supercars behind.

I'd say there would be constant niggles though. 500bhp from 2l just sounds like it's stretching it to me.

I don't know, they were getting over 500 horses from Sierra Cosworths 25+ years ago. The game has moved on a lot since then. The fact you can get it with just bolt on mods and software trickery now is brilliant imo.

Stage 2 can be attained for reasonable money, there's not much will keep with a stage 2 R

Stage 3 isn't really attainable on Irish fuel you'd want to be using octane booster in every tank.

Stage 2 is more than enough for this country. There's not much that will keep into a standard R never mind a modded one.

Quick one guys, don't feel it's worth starting a new thread, car registrations are sequential yeah? Picking up a new car this week and when I was given the reg number I noticed the garage must have registered it awhile ago as I had seen cars on the road around 5K higher. Queried it and my suspicion was confirmed, registered to get it in to their Q1 target. Now what's rankled me a bit is the explanation from the dealer, that the higher numbers I saw would be due to 'larger engines, different gear box or higher spec'.

That is pure bullsh1t right or am I losing it?

Reg's are sequential. Well he had to think of a lie, put on the spot I suppose.

Why would they come clean and say it was reg'd for first quarter targets and then tell such a **** follow up lie about specs and engine sizes.

Wont that have to be taxed back to the date it was reg'd? That's the biggest pain IMO.

Suppose he had to tell me the registration date when I asked, the nonsense reason for the higher reg threw me cause it was so out these, clearly had me questioning myself.

I'll be fuked if I'm paying the tax for March just cause they wanted to get their numbers up and it will have to be paid. All along I said I was collected it this week.

I'd be making sure it was actually registered to you initially before driving off.

I bought a pre-regged car like this many years ago and I was the 2nd owner on the book. I knew that and got a good chunk off the new price, so no worries, but if they are lying about it to your face I would be very careful.

Even on a PCP you are the registered owner from the off. I'd be looking for clarification from them if you bought a new car and they registered it well in advance. Doesn't sound right to be honest.

You'd want to look at the registration cert, if it's already registered to someone else and then registered to you next you'll be the second owner so it's a second hand car and should be valued as such, it's not a new car.(I doubt that's what's happened though but be cautious all the same as they've tried to bull**** you already).

Pre-reg cars are pretty common (especially with VW to hit quarterly sales goals), I bought a pre-reg Passat a few years ago and got a very good deal on it at the time (maybe around 20% off the list price). I would not pay anything near list price for a pre-reg tho.

No reg cert has been received yet. If they did put my name on their address then the registration would need to be updated though with my address wouldn't it? Would that get them around it being second hand as the address is just changing?

Have now been told that it was registered in my name and my address, then put off the road and the reg cert will only issue when the tax is paid.
