You have to laugh at the suggestion that Kingsmill wasn't sectarian. RC's were told to jog on, Protestants shot in the head. It wasn't sectarian though. Some logic that.

Did that as part of the GFA essentially. A border poll is never going to happen in reality. The consequences of the inevitable defeat would be dire.

I doubt that these people are that interested in what the authorities have to say.

The IRA were always terrorists. No ifs or buts.

Unionists just targetted civilians, they were terrorists. The British security forces also targetted civilians but occasionally fought the PIRA, the PIRA mostly stuck with military targets. That's the difference set out for you.

Article 3 of the constitution wouldn't permit such an announcement. The Republic is bound to recognise the will to unify peacefully and on the basis of a majority mandate.

Realistically the only way to abandon unification would be to delete that part of the constitution, and a few others too. Even a rejected border poll wouldn't be enough.

I can't find anything to indicate that Creggan was ever a "peaceful" place. The set of estates was built to house Catholic corpo tenants, and was built specifically for gerrymandering purposes. Historically the area of Creggan was deeply involved in Republicanism. So I expect it was always a thorn in the side of the local authorities.

The "lowest crime rate" thing could be apocryphal - in the late 60s and early 70s, Creggan was one of a couple of designated "no-go areas" of the RUC and BA. Probably the closest that the paramilitaries ever came to annexing part of the north. Justice and peace in these areas was enforced by the IRA.
By 1972, it was all getting too embarrassing for London, who ordered the BA to go in and take control at all costs. Which obviously the residents didn't take too kindly to.

So I would expect that on paper, the RUC's official crime statistics for Creggan probably showed little or no reported crime in the area, until the BA went back in and it all kicked off. Thus came the notion that Creggan was a low-crime area until the Brits messed it up.

The problem for partitionists is that they have to ignore the truth of the old IRA. They celebrate the 1916 heroes, they celebrate the free state/republic but ignore the murder and mayhem that these Republicans were responsible for. Truth is that there was very little difference between the old IRA and the PIRA.

99% was an exaggeration, but the ideology of the Saoradh idiots was overwhelmingly rejected by the votes in favour of the GFA. You know that they have more in common with the likes of the DUP extremists than they do with ordinary people.
