Depends on the mass murderer and his intentions. I imagine this guy like Breivik had no real intention of going out in a haze of bullets.

Breivik actually phoned the police to surrender a couple of times and was found lying face down with his arms around his back.

Whether the death penalty would have deterred it or not is probably impossible to say.

I don't know if there is any data in the States that suggests their is more mass shootings in states without the death penalty.

I think your point in general is fairly sound though.

True absolutely true, and they're more than likely dead inside anyhow.
I cannot get my head around these mass killings, the observation of who's to blame run's very deep and in my opinion it's nothing to do with politics, religion or society.

It's more to do with the someone's neuro linguistic programming, maybe some day science will be able to test newborns DNA and see if they have that destructive gene or pathway.

But nowadays people just want to blame politics and Religion, not everyone has that bridge in their psyche that enables them to cross the Rubicon of inflicting unwarranted pain and death on innocence.....

A lot of them do end up killing themselves, but not all. Some will give themselves up when cornered instead of fighting it out with armed police because they are essentially cowards.

My point is if the death penalty deterred at least one mass shooting, then lives would be saved. And that makes it worth it, in my opinion.
I do understand though that it is a contentious point.

This tragedy happened in NZ, of course we are discussing NZ. That makes sense. If it happened in the US, would you come in saying 'oh what do the Argentinians have to say about this.'

Some people want EVERYTHING to come back to what's happening in the US. Frankly what the US gun control people on either side of the debate have to say about NZ gun control is hugely irrelevant.

It's off topic lads. If you want to discuss gun control in the US, go for it elsewhere. This human tragedy is still only 1 day old and as I have warned before, if you can't stick to the topic at hand without bringing in irrelevant side discussions, then don't post. I don't think i could have been clearer on this. STOP BRINGING THINGS BACK TO US POLITICAL POINT SCORING.

TBF we all ready had a comparison between New Zealand and Australia on gun control, they are thousands of miles away from each other.

Gun control is part of the story, it's highly relevant, we know this because the PM stood up yesterday and said that gun control laws will change and how do countries sometimes legislate on certain things?

They look to other countries who adopted similar methods.

A lot of people are not so easily categorised. We have conflicting opinions about many things, and this is usually ok.
What isn't ok is killing people in the name of religion, or in the name of Ebba Åkerlund.

I really don't like that the okay hand gesture has been hijacked, there aren't that many to begin with. Always used it as an okay symbol, but also in school you'd try to get someone to look at the circle. Feels like if the word fag is banned.

I grew up smoking fags while giving the okay hand signal. It's times like this that makes me hate we live in the Anglosphere as we import way too much nonsense from the US and the UK because they are so much bigger.

Now that may not have stopped the IRA, but it likely slowed them down. And it almost definitely deterred some young folk who would have loved the glory of taking out a Brit but weren’t actually in any group.

Well, legislation on firearms did prevent another Dunblane massacre happening. Similar for Australia. So yep you're gonna get bombers but spree shootings have been eradicated in the UK and Australia.

Not true. The Cumbria Shootings . Derrick Bird killed 12 people and injured 11 others before killing himself in Cumbria, England in 2010.

TBH I think they were so rare in the UK and Australia, it's very hard to state that gun control eradicated them.

By dragging people through the sh*t and pitting them against each other, causing division, hes achieving exactly what he set out to achieve.

Delighted they blurred his face. They should throw him in a hole and let the world forget about him. Wipe his name from the records.

One other thing, can they handcuff these f*ckers from behind. Apparently he gave some right wing salute in court. Brevik did the same . Handcuff their hands behind their backs ffs. Do not give them more of a platform.
