Really surprised at the height of the Rivers in Sligo. Garavogue was almost going over the weir in town last night and must be over it by now after the rain last night. Ballisodare River has considerably burst it's banks.

Last time I can genuinely remember the water being as high as that was 2009 and the terrible flooding. It'll be interesting to see the affect of the rain that's promised this weekend.

ARPEGE for the third run in a row showing a powerful storm moving inland from the W early Sunday.

It is the only model showing this. Unusual to see it locked on with very little variance over the last 3 runs and none of the others showing anything similar.

ECM will be interesting later.

I’m very interested to hear updates on this, I wouldn’t have a clue how to read a weather chart so am counting on those with the knowledge here to keep me up to date. Will we get a repeat of last Sunday??

Irish stations' current March 2019 rainfall totals up to the 6th with their respective % of LTA (Oak Park at 97% of its average March rainfall already) along with each of their wettest Marches on record if available.

in just 6 days we're well ahead of the January and February rainfall.

Dunsany's rainfall for March 2018 was record breaking with 159mm, a fair chunk of that would have been snow.

With a highly unsettled week to come, I'd expect the March 2019 rain total to go up much higher over the next week.

Tuesday still looking like a windy day on some of the models.

ECM looks fairly windy, but not a direct hit.

UKMO still looks very windy, but not as much as it was showing yesterday

Icon looks very windy too with the low passing just to the north of Northern Ireland, with very high winds over Ireland.

GFS looks the least threatening with the low passing half way between Scotland and Iceland.

Clear overhead or all round. Satellite imagery suggests that there is a fair bit of cloud near South Dublin. That being said, south Dublin often gets great breaks in the sun with a moist southerly based wind.

A highly mobile Atlantic regime looks set to dominate our weather pattern through this weekend and the coming week. This will bring a sustained period of unsettled, often very windy and at times wintry weather with showers of hail, sleet and snow.

A very strong Jet Stream will help to push some vigorous and potentially disruptive Atlantic weather systems over Ireland during the period.

Strong and blustery winds look likely to feature from Saturday (9th March) through to at least Wednesday (13th) with frequent gales at sea. Sea conditions will be very rough and there will be exceptionally high seas and swell in Atlantic coastal regions at times.

There is certainly potential for warnings to be issued over the coming days, so please do stay up to date with the Met Éireann forecast.
