Strong Winds, Heavy Rain Wintry Weather : Sat 2nd to Mon 4th March 2019

Worth keeping an eye on how this Depression develops on Saturday. The Models in general have been showing it track up off the NW coast but on latest runs they have been bringing it closer to the coast and showing some strong winds , the GFS not too dissimilar to the ECM at this stage showing a swathe of strong winds across much of the country for a number of hours , showing the strongest winds atm in the W.

More than likely warnings will be issued .

Most tellingly is that the ECM 12Z tracks the centre closer to the coast on the latest run with strong winds gusting 100 to 110 kph inland in places .

Will see how this pans out one way or the other.

Interesting that BBC Weather and the Met Office are both showing a fair bit of snow for tomorrow in many parts of Ireland. ECMWF is also in agreement as is HIRLAM and Arpege, to some extent. And obviously the GFS parallel is up for a decent dumping

Seems like very strange output but there is cross model agreement so I guess it's something to keep an eye on.

Am I reading those Graphs correct? Worst of the wind should of passed Dublin by 4am Monday morning? I’m arriving on a flight into Dublin around 10am and hate even a bit of turbulence!!!

Sunday will be a cold and wet day for much of the country. Rain will develop along southern coasts then push northwards, and become widespread. The rain will turn heavy in the afternoon and possibly turn wintry later as well, with some snow over the hills and mountains. Light winds in the morning will become fresh to strong from a variable direction later as the centre of Storm Freya tracks eastwards over Munster. The strongest winds from Storm Freya will be off the south and east coast of the country. Temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees in the morning will fall to 1 to 5 degrees in the afternoon.

Some snow accumulation charts for tomorrow evening. HIRLAM not showing much nor ICON or the GFS. Looks like Hills and Mountains for sure. Looks like sleet and wet snow. Temps look like 0 to 1 to 2C where snow has fallen into Monday morning so some tricky roads possible Monday morning with snow accumulations on higher ground possibly slow to melt.

This may not be a joke, I've a feeling we will be seeing flakes this month. March could well turn out to be the most unsettled month since last November and the coldest since March 2018, the first taste of winter for some eastern regions which really never really got any winter. Noting major will happen but the extreme mild of the past 3/4 months is over for now.

Yeah but it wasn’t a potentially dangerous period? Tomorrow a risk of flooding primarily and maybe snowy in higher ground.
