Great to have a bit of positivity back around the hurling. The doom and gloom in resent years was palpable at games. Any wide of miss placed pass was met with moans and groans. The cork hurling public are a fickle bunch. This last 10 years was seen by many as the darkest in cork hurling. I would like to point out if we win Munster this year we will have 4 this decade. I might be wrong but I think Clare have 6 in total. The CCB get a lot of stick and never any credit. The appoint of JBM, Kingston and now Meyler have all progressed hurling. Under age structure is now flying (CCB got a a@@ kicking and rightly so). I can feel the buzz is back. It won’t be long before we are at the top table again. We have gone from 4-5 years ago struggling to get out of division 1b to experimenting with teams and winning games in 1a. I know the standard of the league is lower but the mentality of the whole county has changed. I was talking to a lad on the Luas after Tipp (Seamus Call) hammered us out the gate in the all Ireland semi and we both agreed it would be at least 10 years before we were in the top 6. I believe today we are in the top 3 with very little between the top 4. Roll on the summer and the red and white wall of positive happy supporters. Up the rebels.

As a Munsterman but not a Cork man I'd agree with that. Cork are in a good place, lots of options up front. The issue with the current squad is they lack abit of power up the middle although I'd rate O Mahoney and I think Cadogan is your best bet at full back. I also think you do have more options on the bench this year but will Meyler trust them in the Summer. You could throw a blanket over Cork,Limerick and Galway at the moment. Clare not far behind and then the rest not far back again.

Cork have fantastic hurlers but come Championship time mentally Cork are abit brittle due to losing so many semi finals. Physically they can be bullied, obviously the likes of Harnedy wouldn't be . If Limerick and a Cork are level going into the last ten minutes in the Summer then you'd fancy Limerick.

Totally agree. That's a problem Cork have had last few years in semi finals. It's a hurdle they must overcome.

I’m not sure that’s entirely fair. If you take away the semi final last year I don’t think we have lost a close championship game for quite a while (off the top of my head so open to correction). I think against Limerick they just didn’t have the panel to compensate for Harnedy, Kearney and Fitzgibbon. They were the primary ball winners and we didn’t have anything comparable off the bench. I don’t think it had anything much to do with being mentally brittle. In fairness to Meyler there’s been at least 30 lads (and hampered by the Fitz to try more) used in the league so far so he’s looking for options and the likes of O’Mahony, Walsh, Murphy have all looked up to speed along with Cadogan being back, albeit looking rusty.

It’ll be very interesting to see our starting forward line for the first championship game. Probably 10 realistic options to choose from so there’ll be a significantly stronger bench for than last year if all fit.

Reckon I would go with:

Lehane - Harnedy - Kearney - Meade

Hoggy - Walsh

That leaves you with Cadogan, Kingston, Mick Cahalane (when fit), Robbie O’Flynn, O’Halloran and Cormac Murphy off the bench in the forwards.

The main problem we still have is we are over reliant on Harnedy to win ball and act as the only real goal threat. If he goes down we are nowhere near the same team.

The only close championship game I can think of was when they beat Tipp in Thurles with Michael Cahalane getting that goal towards the end

Might not have lost close championship games but we drew two bad ones against Tipp and Limerick last year from winning positions in injury time

I know we won the Munster final but we conceded a poor injury time goal as well

Something to work on this year hopefully

While you normally post negative drivel, the above is about as wholly nonsensical as is absolutely possible. If we are in the bottom 2 when the league is over, then we deserve to go down. We still have a chance of not finishing there. That's not a fantasy world, it's simple facts. Equally, if they did stay up, then they would have deserved it. You might hope we get hammered in every game, to highlight the set up is not up to scratch but the world and their mother already know that. If you think being relegated to division 3 is a good thing, you'll probably be delighted if we ever went down to 4.

I never saw Christy Ring play or even him alive but I know plenty of people who saw him play or knew him personally including his niece and nephew. I'm not for relegation but we can't stay up in division 2 if we aren't good enough. So division 3 is about where we are with bad management and coaching over the years has led to all of this. You are on here then saying its make or break for the footballers this weekend when everyone in cork knows the footballers have being going down the swanny since 2013 and we have nothing to be positive in 2019 with the footballers bar going down to division 3 where we now belong. We are LAST in division 2. Does that tell you something?

If we are good enough again we will rise up to higher divisions. Sometimes even when you are trying to be optismic here about Cork football you end up coming to conclusions that all isn't bad in the Cork setup. You are part of the reason Cork football is where it is now.

Is that letter in any way representative of the feelings of Cork GAA fans regarding Peter McKennas recent interview regarding the overspend on Pairc UI Chaoimh?

It's seems like complete and utter nonsense to me but I'm an outsider. While McKenna's worst case scenario of a €110 million cost seems unlikely now it did force the Cork board to admit the final cost would be almost €10million higher that the figure they were peddling at the time McKenna made his intervention.

They are bottom currently, IF they could turn that fact around to finish 3rd from bottom, then that would be a great achievement. Of course it would. Not sure how you think that's embarassing !! Playing in division 3 would/will be embarassing- considering only us, Kerry and Dublin have never been there before, but it is looming ever closer.
We have a knack of selecting the wrong manager/set up for Cork football. That wont change if we stay up Or get relegated. That's where the problem has been for a number of years. We wont get straight back to div 2 without fixing that.

I believe we should be competitive, which after 4 games, we aren't. Hoping that could change in the next 3 games, but also preparing for the worst.

If us or Waterford win all Ireland it will be 5 different county’s winning in a row and 6 thus decade. That is why hurling is flying. It will be so close again this year a bad ref call or mistake could cost one of 6-7 teams an all Ireland. But for me Limerick are favorites. It was no luck they won last year. Beat all the big guns Tipp, Kilkenny, Cork and Galway. For me we are still missing an Timmy or Niall Mc type player in forwards. Walsh has had a great league and I’m a big fan but once the ground hardens and the pace picks up I think he will struggle (I hope I’m wrong). Like wise at the back I feel we need more ball winners. I will count this year how many balls we win cleanly in the air from long puck outs. I will guess I could count with my fingers. Because of this we cough up 6-7 easy scores every game from our own puck out. It’s very hard to kill a game giving that many soft points away. Another big issue I have noticed in the last few years is nearly every time we score a goal we loss the next puck out and the opposition score. We were alway thought the next score after a goal is crucial. It’s the difference between a 4 point and 2 point swing. Roll on the summer.
