ECMWF has been consistent now at progging a significant low pressure system near Ireland for Friday.

On the latest 12z it has sped up its progression a little and now has a significant storm hitting the spine of Ireland on Friday.

One to watch.

Erik arrived out here after a noisy enough night around 1/4 to four am and now I am sitting abed wincing at the gust s involuntarily

Far far rather be overwarned than it be played down and not warned.

People yelled about Callum as it was a west coast event. Said it was a normal winter storm for the west. We don';t usually get roads smashed as they did in Belmullet that night and record breaking gusts off Achill island .

It was the worst storm I have seen in this place so far, and watching Erik?

stay safe out there... I thanked westnet, my server, as in all these storms the dish, on the gable end facing north, has never flickered and we rarely get power cuts.

It looks like a sting jet occured a few hours ago but the satellite signature is not as clear now as the centre nears the northwest. We'll know in the next couple of hours.

The pressure difference between Belmullet and Newport (~50 km) was 4 hPa at 5 am.

TAF for Dublin airport shows a sting in Erik's tail Fri night into Sat morning. Gusting 55kts between 0000-0500.

Looking at these charts, Sligo should definitely be considered for Orange. Wind is already fairly phenomenal here.

Gonna be a disaster getting to school (Work!) in an hour or two.

While the winds may not top into ‘orange’ territory across much of Ireland, the wind field looks notably strong inland, so genuine ‘yellow’ level winds in inland counties which are rarer than you’d think given how often yellow warnings are issued may result in people thinking this has been played down. Expect a lot of power cuts

Strange to me how this is a yellow warning and last week was also yellow. Last week was a non event but the car was getting chucked around the motorway today. Dublin/Navan
