NRA have this morning advertised for engineering consultancy to design medium to long term solution to the junction!

I've said it before on here, I don't think it makes sense that a city the size of Cork should be getting that high a traffic count through the tunnel.

marno21 wrote: » In what way would you suggest Bloomfield needs changing? The M40 westbound from the M28 will be an issue because of the Douglas flyover, but that's irrespective of the M28 being built at all, just simple traffic growth.
Truckermal wrote: » https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= Traffic exiting Bloomfield heading west on the N40 really slows down traffic as it merges but a third lane over Douglas would probably sort that. Traffic often comes to a stop at Mahon some mornings as a result so imagine how bad that will be in 3.5 years! I know I know this is all O/T!
marno21 wrote: » I think at this stage TII need to start planning on moving beyond the N40. It's too constrained because of its route for it to be a 3 lane highway along its entire length and the cost of obscenely expensive projects such as widening the Douglas flyover or adding another tunnel bore could be better invested elsewhere in either road measures, or alternative measures.

Ground investigation works are continuing throughout the site. These works will continue for a number of months but there will be no impact on traffic over the next few weeks. Over the coming days, a works access will be constructed at the eastbound on-lane to the N25 from the Bury’s Bridge/Dunkettle Road area. A stop/go system will be in operation here during off peak hours but no significant disruption to traffic is anticipated.

Would love if they put up a feed the far side of the tunnel too... and another around Douglas so you can see how bad the tailbacks are.

Wonder what will happen to all the bunnies living in the grass area at the center of the roundabout. The "earthworks" just next to the concrete bridge structures are all rabbit holes.
hans aus dtschl wrote: » My wish-list is that and an East-West pedestrian/cycle route. If they don't do either of these now, it will be SO much more expensive to do them later.
Markcheese wrote: » I'd agree, and think there should be a public transport hub/ interchange as near as possible to the new junction, and the rail line, So you could get off a train from Midleton and head towards mahon, or femoy, way too late, though it'll need to be done later at vast expense
spacetweek wrote: » That could be added later easily enough since it won't actually be in the junction for obvious reasons.
