Calls for Graham Linehan to be removed from Prime Debate on transgender issues!

Prime Time are airing a special about transgender issues on Tuesday night at 21:35. I believe it mainly involves young people but will also show older people who have transitioned.
Graham Linehan is due to appear on this but a petition has being started to have him removed. There was an article on the matter on an Irish newspaper website but it has being removed.
Where do people stand on this matter?

Personally I can see both sides on the matter when it comes to kids/teenagers transitioning and how it may effect them in the long term since it's such a big change to make but I'm no expert on the matter.

Well, technically our race is there from the beginning in our DNA. Right from the moment the sperm fertilised the egg.
And although our gender id determined by the sperm, isn't quite that simple as it relies on whether or not certain hormones are released.
You can have people who are literally both genders at the same time. Bizarrely, - and I hope the still don't do this - the gender was decided by a doctor looking and saying ummmm... yeh... this one looks female/male without actually checking the chromosomes for like... a clue.

You have the "Guevedoces" in the Dominican Republic where all children are born looking female and only at puberty do some of them begin to 'become' boys. All the children are raised as female and many of those who later turned out to be male say the never felt comfortable being girls. It felt wrong.

No amount of hormones will change our 'racial DNA' - having said that you can have blond haired, blue eyed children of black parents and vis versa.
I knew a family in London where the mother was white blonde English, Father light skinned Indian, son was white blond, blue eyed and daughter was very dark skinned and looked Indian.

It sounds high in absolute numbers but its really well under 0.5% of the population. Like I said it is what it is and there shouldn't be any discrimination and there should be support and all that but I'm not sure what all that fussing about is either.

Transgender is an issue that has been studied, researched and most importantly experienced on a significant enough scale to allow for other two previous points.

Your comparison doesn't work because of that. I've heard of it alright and seen the odd thrash talk show exploit those who feel that way, but right now it isn't a legitimate comparison.

It’s a complete setup of course, which Linehan knows well, but he doesn’t care about that so much as he cares about his views reaching and resonating with a wider audience - the Peter Casey effect I like to call it.

Why do you need to get on board with anything? Just let people live the way they choose. Isn't that what this is all about?

In a recent episode of It's Always Sunny they had a bit on what signage to out on the male/female toilets & it obviously decended into a farce (v funny) but the real answer was to just name both toilets Toilet/Wash room (wharever).

Really if things don't negativily impact/interfere with your life & makes others more comfortable/happy why wouldn't you support that? That's not asking you to "get on board" with anything other than being basically decent.

Let's not taint the simple concept of treating people well with edge cases.

Yes some people call them soy men or soy boys.

That’s not how it ended up. Dee didn’t want the guys in her toilet. The ending was calling it an animal sh1thouse.

That’s not true at all. You don’t have to be a qualified medical professional to have an opinion on either transgenderism or anorexia, but you can hardly deny that it helps your credibility a lot more than some jackass giving their opinions where it’s apparent that they haven’t a notion what they’re talking about. You can be any head-the-ball and demand to be taken seriously applies to anyone, even Graham Linehan, and he is entitled to dismiss anyone who disagrees with him as a “progressive”.

I don’t feel a need to question him as I don’t believe he has the potential to make any useful contribution to the discussion. Questioning him would be giving his opinions a legitimacy I feel they don’t deserve. IMO he’s simply best ignored, but RTÉ have chosen to entertain his nonsense because they desperately need the cash they know the programme will generate from advertising revenue.
