Labour Saving and General Guntering

How about using this thread to show off our engineering skills (or lack of!)
A lot of us have home made or improvised labour saving tools / implements lying around. Similar to stuff in Farmers Journal labour saving compettions. (without the prize money:p).

Maybe we could use this thread to share interesting ideas and discuss improvements.

I don't have any pictures at the moment of my own but I will take some at the weekend if not before.

My own projects include:
Quick hitch for front loader (fairly rough but works), designed to fit Trima implements onto MF loader.
Adapter to fit bale lifter onto front loader.
Various other loader attachments spikes etc.

Current project is a wrapped bale transporter being built out of remains of an old Muck Spreader. (only just started, currently just an axle and draw bar).

Their maybe other stuff around too, I'll have to have a look.

So what are peoples opinions, is this a good idea for a thread?

It's just below the cab above the back end.

I always put hydraulic oil in the back end of the 4270 I had and the thicker engine oil for the front all right.
Maybe I did wrong?
I couldn't tell you the viscosity but my mechanics were adamant that it take different oils for each end.
But I put universal oil in both ends of a Ford 7610 alright.

To the Farrier although your probably OK, 3 to 4 liters is a good bit, if it was me I'd change it to be sure, your oil will be a good bit lighter than it's meant to be.

But the oil for the hydraulics goes in that little screw off cap on the back end of a mf 4255.
Correct?

You can buy anti-squawk additive and put in about a half litre if the brakes start shuddering/squealing.

No... And depends on tractor, propper hydraulic oil is no good for lubrication of transmission or cooling of brakes. Tractors which use the same oil for hydraulics/transmission/oil emersed brakes do not use hydraulic oil they use universal oil some even can use same oil in engine.

Is it 0.75 Lts? If so, i'd say you're fine. Just top up with the right stuff. No harm check with dealer to confirm first though.

I'm not sure I follow.

Yea the nuts are screwed off and the angle iron separates.
Angle iron is for strength and to withstand any bending or distortion.
And the bolts are to grip the pieces together tighter than a duck's behind.

Yes you have to unbolt the two pieces completely.
I welded the heads of the bolts to the flat bar to stop them spinning/falling/getting lost.
Hooks won't work, the vertical wires will just run along the horizontal ones.

Never slipped yet.

There's 50mm of a flat surface squeezing together. So 50mm of grip on the wire. I suppose it depends on how strong you are with a wrench.

Very dangerous to be doing that with a quad.

Might be an ok idea on the back of even the likes of a small tractor such an MF35 or something. But on the back of a quad? Death trap. Might get away with a bale of hay if you take your time.

And in reality, who stores bales in single layers on the round edge like that? Good luck with trying to roll one you take from the bottom layer of a 4-high stack. The fellas who stack them singly, tend to stack them on the flat end.
