The moon will be high enough in the sky when the eclipse starts. it will be low in the west at the end of the eclipse.

Most of the weather sites I checked are showing a band of thick cloud covering a lot of Ireland during the eclipse. :mad:

Checked Met.ie for where I am, "partly cloudy" for most of it, so might be lucky. Better wrap up though, -1C forecast!

On my phone I have the weather app Dark Sky which I find particularly good. It even gives a percentage of cloud cover for each hour. Unfortunately for me its 51 percent cloud cover at 2am rising to 83 percent cloud cover by 6am for where I am.

Cold and dry tonight, with clear intervals. Lows of minus 2 to plus 1 degrees Celsius with a widespread sharp frost forming and the risk of icy patches. Light variable breezes.

Leinster forecast from ME, I'll take that. Fortunately it's a fairly long event!

Its not like a solar eclipse, where the timing is dependant on your location.

All times UTC/GMT morning of January 21st .....

Start of pemumbral stage: 02:34
Moon enters umbra (start of partial phase): 03:33
Moon fully eclipsed (all of the Moon inside Earth's umbral shadow): 04:40
Moons begins to exit umbra (end of total phase) 05:43
Moon exits umbra: 06:51
End of penumbral stage: 07:49

The penumbral stages are of no significance, the eclipse effectively lasts from 3:33 to 06:51 with the moon totally eclipsed from 04:40 to 05:43

High clouds here in Letterkenny. Moon visible but hazy. Sat24.com shows thickening cloud from west on thermal satellite image. Doesn’t look too good for the west coast

This is the moon before eclipse. As you can see, it's misty. It could be better but not too bad, yet.

Really getting cloudy now from the west, hopefully just a small bunch of clouds passing by.

you can make out that the moon is partially eclipsed through the clouds in Galway but can't see any detail to be able to appreciate it? anyone on the east of the country getting good views?

Can see the eclipse nearly covering the moon, but very hazy and not much clarity.

The eclipse is at about 3/4 now, clearish with no real cloud cover. I tried taking a photo but its brutal.

I also saw a fox....end transmission.

Typical. Weather was slightly hazy for the partial with fairly average detail available but as it got closer to totality the visibility just got worse and worse. Can't see it at all now. So technically I saw it but it's like an own goal, do you really want to claim it.

Time for a cuppa I think, can't see a thing here at the moment. Even the slightest mist is enough to kill any view of the fully eclipsed moon, as I'm not in the darkest area.

I'm on the east coast and it's very cloudy and misty unfortunately. video link below. Always either cloud or mist here on the coast. My camera is not great though.
