€25k invested in prize bonds

Hiya,
Thought I'd update this thread on the success (or not) of €25k (yes, €25,000) I invested in PBs since February.

Purpose of this thread is to give some indication of the success rate of PBs for the ordinary punter as I assume €25k is large amount to invest in one go.

Planning to keep it in there for a year or so.

I cashed in various batches during the year but my approx return for the year was .36%.

I've more or less given up checking each week as there is so rarely anything for me. My last win of €50 was on 24th August last, which brought my sum total for the whole year 2018 to €200 (on c.€70K). I'm far too old to go 'shopping around', and can only hope that 2019 might bring a somewhat better result. I'll try to keep the flag flying anyway!

2018 my year in Prize Bonds.

January No win.

February No win.

March, finally on the 29th, ending a 26 week winless run going back to October 2017.

April One win.

May No win.

June Four wins, including two on the 8th.

July No win.

August Four wins in four consecutive draws.

September One win.

October No win.

November Three wins.

December One win.

In total fifteen wins each of €50 giving me a return of 0.52% which is 50% above the expected return with normal luck of 0.35%. Obviously helped in no small measure by June and August.

The wins came from my January 2006 Small Bunch (2 wins 1%). March 2009 Small Medium Bunch (2 0.54%). March 2010 Big Medium Bunch (1 0.17%). January 2010 Big Bunch (9 0.63%). Plus one win from €150 reinvested in January 2012. But five wins came from a series of 2591 bonds in my Big Bunch. If I had held only these bonds during the year they would have produced a return of 1.54%.

I had a PB return of 0.2%.

I had a Dividend return of 1% (after tax).

Nearly 4 times more roi from divs with less capital.

Just to keep a record of it, the number of prizes this month is 4558 up from 4519 in Dec 2018. March 2018 4140, July 4362, Sept 4437. A steady and significant increase in the Prize Bond fund.

If the other NTMA products are also still getting money in I wouldn't be surprised to see a further reduction in interest rates. They don't need any more money.

Not sure what you mean. I only have €25k and they're the winnings - €2,700 since 2011.
