This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

Bad sequence Of play. Poor free form DOC to Andy the Galway allowed work the ball up the pitch pretty easily. Higigns been caught badly against Limerick last year and on plenty other occasions as well. Case for him to be played out the pitch now or no where. Especially if the mark is kept

There's a video there which shows off what phase 1 involves. New dressing rooms and a new terraced area.

It's a disgrace that the stadium was let get so bad but the people trying to sort the place out now need to be supported by playing an occasional match in Tuam. Hopefully the board will get their own finances in order now and make a more meaningful contribution in future as well.

Drake had a v good game & Keith Higgins and Vaughan did a lot of donkey work. But will Donie ever learn? I think DOC was lucky not to get blacked as well the mood that ref was in. The amount of off the ball let away was very frustrating.
Taking off Drake was a poor decision at that stage in the game, I couldn't see that he was injured.

I can imagine most if not all of D Clarke,L Keegan,P Durcan,A O Shea,S O Shea,A Moran,K McLoughlin and E O’Donoghue will be starting against Roscommon.

Anyway, expecting a big attendance for the Roscommon game going on the numbers in Tuam! Looking forward to it. I think two or more lads have done enough to secure a position on the league squad which by all accounts is very positive!

Was there not some problem with Tuam and the trustees when Salthill was re-developed ?
I seem to recall there was mention that it was Tuam that was to be re-developed rather than Salthill, but the problem with the trustee prevented that happening.

If I recall correctly,there was a big push to redevelop Pearse because there was a feeling that GAA had been neglected in the city and they felt having the stadium there would re-energise GAA in the city.

Thought that Conor Diskin lad at number 13 looked handy enough. Never heard of him before. Reape did well too but I have seen him mentioned here a few times.

Why do they need a second ground?

They have a hurling team as well that's fairly competitive, they are one of the most competitive counties in the country in both codes. Great history in Tuam and Galway , it's time it was developed. The last 10 years were a write off in this country and there were issues with trustees as stated when the opportunity was there for a ground to be developed. Great to see a plan in place. Rome wasn't built in a day!

Speaking to Kiltimagh football people they don’t rate Slingermann, wouldn’t be first club choice apparently. Is it Durcan (May have that name wrong) that came in for him this year

I may be incorrect, and I can understand there being a push to have Pearse stadium redeveloped, but wasn`t the redevelopment of Tuam, with it being regarded as the natural home of Galway football, the first priority until a problem arose with the trustees of Tuam stadium ?

Slingermann is not long after leaving LOI and while the principal of goalkeeper is the same in both codes, shotstopping, keepers are nearly like attackers in Gaelic Football now and it would take him a while to adjust to the new code I would have thought. Its a wise move to get him on the panel this year and re-learn the trade and then have him as an option next year especially if Clarke retires.

Does Galway really need two stadiums?

I don't think it needs two stadiums capable of hosting Connacht Finals or crowds in excess of 10,000 but I'd say the ideal setup is to have Pearse as the "big" stadium and then have Tuam, Athenry and Balinasloe capable of hosting big club games and lower profile county games, including ladies football and camogie if needed.

Wasn't there talk of a motion to get Mayo to play a home league game outside Castlebar recently but it was abandoned due to a lack of a suitable venue because they tend to get around 10,000 in for league games?

From what I've been told about Pearse getting redeveloped instead of Tuam it's sounds like the people involved with running Tuam at the time expected the GAA to foot damn near all the bill for modernising the stadium but were unwilling to give up any control of the venue. One example I was given is that they wouldn't give up something minor like deciding who would be let in to sell cans of soft drink and sweets on match day. They believed the GAA would never actually do the work in Pearse. Of course now that the hurlers are going to get meaningful championship matches going forward Tuam will never regain it's place at the top of the food chain.

Thats interesting. Well if he can't make the club teams its odd he is on the county. Could be some loyalty issues there at club level.

There was, but there hasn't been any talk of building a second large stadium in the county because McHale park is enough for the county IMO. I'd love if Tuam was the main stadium rather than Pearse though. Have great memories from Tuam but not many good ones from Pearse mainly because of the traffic. That being said 2015 was a good day there.

That basically was my understanding of the Tuam stadium situation. Vested interests wanted to have control of the stadium, yet expected the GAA to foot the bill believing they would not redevelop Pearse instead. If that was the case, then I have no sympathy for Tuam. Galway really does not need two large stadiums, but it looks as if the GAA had no other options other than upgrade Pearse to a provincial level stadium. Which was what the funding from Croke Park was for at the time faik.

It seems with the future plans for Tuam the previous problems may have been solved, but other than inter-county football league games being played there, all major championship plus all inter-county hurling games will be in Pearse.
Business wise, Tuam really shot themselves in the foot when they tried playing hardball over that original redevelopment.

Pearse is a bitch for traffic, but while Tuam would be looked upon as the spiritual home of Galway football it, certainly would not be looked upon the same way for hurling, so I cannot ever see it going back to main stadium status.

What do you mean? He only left Sligo Rovers at the end of last season (May 2018) so wouldnt have been available for the club before then. He was hardly going to walk straight onto the team

Works out at only a tenner a game here, if you plan ahead & buy the Spring Series ticket for €40. Good value when we have four home games. Not so good when we only have three. Parnell Passes & season tickets get you in for free.

Not much consolation to someone who only decides to go the day of the match, I suppose.
