If her thesis highlights both outside discrimination and also the issues internally like removing children from school so young it's a sign of major progress being made. She's from very close to Rathkeale so if she could work and make a difference in that area it would be great.

She wouldn’t have to look far to see why Irish people are negative and not racist, the New Zealander’s have deported their guests, are the Kiwis racist too. If her thesis is all about racism against travellers then it’s about as much use as Pavee Point, hope she doesn’t end up working there, that organisation should be closed down.
She said she looked at policing, and how young Travellers were treated by gardaí in Galway city. “I found high levels of racism and ethnic profiling. It’s very similar to how the black community in America are policed.” She also examined how gardaí “police or govern public areas”. The young Travellers interviewed claimed they were subjected to “continuous checking, stopping and searching without any particular reason for it.” She also found there is a “institutionalised stereotype” of Travellers embedded in the settled community, which is mostly negative-based.
At the core of anti-Traveller racism is the assumption that nomadism is not a valid way of life. The State response has been to outlaw it and measures taken have been to “assimilate/absorb” us to stop us from being who we are, the dominant powers viewed as ‘less than’ or ‘inferior’ than the majority population, they viewed us as people that were somehow ‘failed settled people’ or ‘broken’ in that we needed to be ‘fixed’ and ‘aided’ in becoming ‘settled’ which can easily be defined as cultural and ethnic genocide.

The chip pan started the fire but the fact that the caravans were squished into a small site with inadequate fire safeguards is against regulations. But they got away with that by saying it was an emergency site . The fire hose and hydrant didn't have any water pressure. It is wrong to house families with children on sites like that at all never mind excuse it once they've all been burnt to death. If you tried to build an attic conversion without attention to fire safety regulations in DLRCC I bet they would pull the plug pretty fast. But hey it's ok because they were only travellers?

What happened was horrific, but there is no sense at all playing the blame game. It was a horrible accident, that could have happened in any one of our homes. Chip pans are unfortunately not safe to use. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Some travellers have issues but believe me so do settled ordinary Irish people. I would not want a lot to do with some of the people posting here , and for that reason I'm out !
