While I've zero interest in his music*, there is a difference to listening to music you've already bought (so not Spotify or Youtube or any other source of continually funding the person involved) and actually assisting/supporting them by buying it or whatever - radio play in most countries gives them money too.

It may change in time but currently its really only music and a little bit of film that people stop listening to/watching after a creator becomes unacceptable. William S Burroughs was a drug addicted paedophile who murdered his wife but Naked Lunch is still seen as important in literary history.

So maybe don't listen to it any way that makes him money. But if you've already bought the albums...

*I'd struggle to call it music tbh.

R Kelly could kick off the second Holocaust.

Still wouldn't change the fact that Ignition is an absolute banger.

Chris Brown beat the **** out of Rhianna and he is still going strong. So a lot of people will still buy his music.

Personally never a fan. So I don't make any difference.

What do you mean OP would I still listen to his music? I never did in the first place.

An awful lot of music anyway is just dated after a while - fine for it’s time, but listening to some music today that was my favourite music then, it’s just not the same. Well, the music hasn’t changed obviously, but I have, and so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that music I listened to 30 years ago, I wouldn’t listen to it today if it wasn’t for Spotify, iTunes or YouTube.

There are some exceptions, but R. Kelly was always shìte in any era.

Options on poll really should be "My minds telling me no but my body, my body's telling me yes"

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,342 ✭✭✭fatknacker

Not a fan of his stuff but there'll probably never come a time when I won't be amused by his Trapped in the Closet saga.

His music has always been bland and boring.

How he managed to continue to commit offences over decades when it was the biggest open secret in music is a head scratcher.

    Glazers Out!

White America, his atrocities are against black women. If he had urinated on a white 14 year old girl he'd of been strung up.

He's the 'I believe I can fly' chap isn't he?

Did he write that? As I've heard it sung at many a gospel show and I would assume it's a song that is sung at many a religious ceremony..... although...... Religious.......paedo......hmmmmmmm, maybe it will stay on their playlist!

    Stupid nonsense, well done.

Considering his music has always been ****e it wouldn't bother me either way.

So up to very recently, what has black America done about him?

I don’t listen to R Kelly anyway just don’t like his music. I like Woody Allen movies though. And he’s probably a creep personally. His art is interesting though.

its an interesting question, and im undecided.

50 cent said in an old stern interview that the guy who shot him 'wasn't around any more' ;);)

so if you take the inference he made to be true, and if you switch off r kelly, then you'd surely have to switch off 50 cent too.

There has been all this uproar, outrage and backlash over the last few few weeks with the latest revelations about him... but that's the thing: the LATEST revelations.

If people were willing to forget that R. Kelly was literally pissing on 14 year old Prostitutes SEVENTEEN F*CKING YEARS AGO, and married a 15 year old Aaliyah (who he met when she was 12...) 24 years ago, they will forget about this too in time. Fifteen years ago he got done on having a fair stash of child PORN (and only got off because of a technicality, bogey search warrant).

Seriously, wtf is up with how 'shocked and appalled' people are claiming to be about this? We knew what he was, and anyone pretending that - this- is what stops them listening to this dirt bag is lying, if not to others then to themselves.

I would keep the music and person separate. Him doing bad things doesn't make a song sound any different. And while I don't know most of his stuff, he has a couple of chooooooons

Never got into R Kelly but I do like listening to “two little Boys”- particularly as I have two wee men

Why? Getting someone who shot you killed is very different to being a paedophile.

On the R. Kelly note, he claims to be deeply Christian but does like to have sex with underage girls. Behind The B*stards just had a good two part podcast on how awful he is.

Why is this all only coming to a head now?

R Kelly was in the news years back for this sort of stuff.

Previous allegations against him didn’t stop me listening to him so neither will this.

Big rush of victims coming out about some even worse stuff he did, on a documentary called Surviving R. Kelly. Which is fair enough in one sense, but its just bizarre how people are acting shocked about it, like you said its been known for close to two whole decades that he is a horrible scumbag (a quarter century if you include marrying a 15 year old in 1994, but the 2002-04 stuff was worse and got a lot more airplay).

There is likely no floor with this guy, they will find something even worse again in 10-15 years... and by the looks of it, people will be shocked!!!! again then, as if this never happened.

I haven’t heard any of his music since ‘I believe I can’t fly’

To be honest I’ve not read what’s going on at the moment. But did he not get done years ago? Why would anyone want to work with him since?

Does he just write songs for other people?
