I'm not even going to bother posting links of the poor young girl that was murdered by a 13 year old.

Is there something in the water out there that causes the young to lose the run of themselves?

Sad to see a few bad eggs terrorising the neighbourhood. Hopefully 18 years from the 1st of January 2018 there will be less of this behaviour.

A few bad eggs, seriously. Lucan is now fairly built up but it's side by side with some of the historical worst parts of dublin going back decades. Old lucan village wasn't so bad 20 years ago but things have long since moved on. My brother moved into an estate around johnsbridge and since he now has two young kids he has his house on the market. It's considered by some as a decent enough area yet his wife has been abused countless times and robbed twice after getting off the bus to start a short walk home. It's disappointing of course but I can't for the life of me figure out why people are so surprised. Two murders and a few more shootings there in the last 12 months alone. Hardly a peaceful neighbourhood.

There was a rape and a serious assault in D4 over xmas, is that going downhill also?

When they started to run out of forever homes in Ballyfermot, Neilstown, Clondalkin etc they shoved them out to Lucan. Add a bit of Diversity to the mix and you have a sinkhole.

This is all over Ireland bar a few really nice areas that it cant be allowed happen, but it can turn up anywhere, a lot of it is to do with social issues (in my opinion the result of Govt policies, yes FG, but also from Irish politics in the main, so all the mainstream parties have brought this on), Individuals are of course responsible for their actions so when incidents like this come up, an area will be highlighted, as any area, there are lots of good people, and it only takes a few who aren't or a few incidents to make it apparent what is going on but is usually not reported on.
There needs to be a very low tolerance to anti social behaviour but that is not helped by the State or the Gardai who do not give a damn, its absolutely useless when you report minor incidents, because the Gardai do not care, but ignoring minor problems leads to more serious problems.
I dont think it will matter if the Gardai are better funded or even if their numbers were increased, they still would have the same attitude and will go for the easy targets, ie people going out to work who are missing a months car tax or TV licence unpaid. These scrotes need to be picked up and locked up in closed door juvenile facilites, locked in their cells outside class hours/no free reign and made to participate in either educational improvements or if they refuse, hard labour (either worthwhile or meaningless) during the day and minimal rations and zero luxuries, if they refuse either of that, let them rot locked up for even longer until they change their tune, they arent contributing anything to society (only taking) and it will be better for the rest of us.
The champagne socialists and neo liberals have a lot to answer for.

Lucan is an enormous area with a pop. of nearly 50000.. it's nowhere near becoming a no go area .There's large original old housing estates where nothing happens in apart from an odd burglary.

It stretches from the edge of Clondalkin up to Adamstown .
I'd imagine if you took a look at any town or area with similar pop. you find exactly the same issues both good and bad.

When they decided to sell up their council homes so they could make quick money off developers friends they moved them all out to Tallaght. Been doing so and expanding on that since the 70's and 80's.

Dismantle neighbourhoods. Stick a bunch of families on low/no income in one big lump out somewhere with little transport and amenities and shock horror...it doesn't turn out well.

What? Let me just add I've lived in Lucan for over 10 years and would say it's got worse, but to describe it as a no go area is a complete exaggeration..
