Gerry Ryan WAS 2FM. They've struggled to make up the numbers since he died. They would have kept him as long as possible before having him on RTE1.

Love him or hate him, he was one of a kind as far as Irish Radio was concerned. Unlikely there'll ever be a presenter as popular again.

Unfortunately though he was very much a big fish in a small pond, wouldn't have been able to compete with some of the UK or US presenters of the same era.

No, but he had a lot less than he could have. The aul coke doesn't lend itself to solid financial decison making.

He would have remained at RTE for as long as he wished and for as long as they wanted him he was by far the biggest name there whether you liked him or not a massive fish in a small pond why would he give that up to become a nobody on a UK or US radio station when he had everything he wanted on RTE.

Not at all, he was on 600k a year before he died, refused a paycut in the recession, said it was bull****!

He had lost his appeal for most people, was much less popular than he was in the mid to late 90s. But he still had a good following, might have been changed from that time slot or even gone to Radio 1 but he’d still be v prominent. In fairness there was a time when his show was very good craic.

He wouldn't have survived in today's environment. P.C would have killed his career.

Its not inconceivable that the gerry would be hosting the Late Late Show now. Was more tech savvy than Tubbs too.
