Garda shoots dog in Longford

What's this all about? I've seen the video that the woman took of the incident but it's not very clear. Not sure if I can post the video here so I'll erron the side of caution & not post it. Was the garda justified? He looks like he was alone or was it a negligent discharge? Hard to say either way.

Firing a pistol single handed like that is a bit reckless in itself...in fact the whole thing looked unwarranted.

But did you see the full 1 minute clip where the traveller is holding and trying to control something low to the ground. And did you hear the garda say "I'll shoot it in the head, get him off of me"

A person attacking an armed officer could take the officer's weapon and kill him or her with it. So yes.

If that is the case then he had no choice. I love dogs and have two but a dog should not be used as a weapon to bite people. Simple as that.

No. The younger man in the video was clearly shown to be holding onto something with his right hand. This was out of shot, so while we didn't see it, it was obviously a sack of potatoes from Lidl. He later attached this sack to the garda's tie.

Explains why the armed garda was there.

You're still making it sound like you are watching a different video than the rest of us. The full 1 minute clip with dialogue is available and you can even slow down playback to get a better idea of what may have happed.
I can assure you he is holding his tie to prevent someone or something from strangling him. He is NOT trying to adjust his tie because it's not straight.

The Garda doesn't come across professional but in any event I anticipate his actions were completely justified if he was getting attacked or about to get set on by a dog.

It's just unfortunate the bullet ricocheted into yer mans foot and not yer ones mouth that was recording it
